Default Horror Film Tournament

I'm currently running one of these on another site I frequent, and am thinking about doing it here. On the one hand, the other site is about 500x more populated, but I think I'd get better discussion here so it'd be fun to do it on both sites.

Would you guys be interested? Are there many horror film fans here?

So what does it entail and BTW there are one or two of us on here who REALLY know our Horror films and will take you into the most disgusting and depraved places you have ever been. After we have finished you will be a mere shell of your former self

Well the way I ran it on the other site is set up like a March Madness bracket, not sure how familiar Brits are with it but it's just single elimination, looks like this:

So that it would end with crowning one film as MB's favorite horror film basically. And yeah, we'd probably have to stick to the more well known films (though somewhat underground titles like Cannibal Holocaust could make it in) so that there are actually enough people that have seen them to vote on.

Like I said, I'm not sure it'd work since this community is so much smaller. On the other site, I did 64 films for a complete bracket. Here, because I can't be running multiple matchups at a time, it'd probably have to be 32 unless we want to be doing it for 4 months straight.

And I'm always open to horror film suggestions. I have much to see so I'm all ears.

Cannibal Holocaust is positively mainstream to the delights we have for you and if you haven't seen the films then you would love the stuff we will throw at you!

I may have to count myself out of this though because of this. No Pete Walker, Jake West, Mario Bava, Dario Argento or Lucio Fulci in the first place means that it would be too mainstream for me but good luck

Well I'm familiar with Mario Bava (have seen Black Sunday and Blood and Black Lace) and Lucio Fulci (Zombi 2) if that earns me any brownie points

I probably won't bother running it if one of horror's biggest fans isn't on board, but here was the final 64 list if you're curious. Keep in mind these were nominated by the community, not myself, and we had to cut down some of the more obscure titles from 100 to make it an even 64:

The Shining
Psycho
Nosferatu
Alien
The Thing (82)
The Exorcist
Evil Dead 2
The Haunting
Gremlins
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Dawn of the Dead (78)
Day of the Dead
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Hills Have Eyes
American Werewolf in London
The Birds
The Changeling
The Silence of the Lambs
Bride of Frankenstein
The Horror of Dracula
Misery
The Wolfman (1940)
The Mummy (1959)
Rosemary's Baby
Let the Right One In
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part II
Halloween (1978)
Black Christmas (1975)
Jaws
The Creature From the Black Lagoon
Candyman
Phantom of the Opera (1925)
The Fly (1986)
It
Jacob's Ladder
The Blair Witch Project
Poltergeist
The Fog (1980)
Re-Animator
Hellraiser
28 Days Later
Cannibal Holocaust
The Omen (1976)
Suspiria
Paranormal Activity
Trick R Treat
Creepshow
The Ring (Japan)
The Grudge (Japan)
Dark Water (Japan)
Saw
Hostel
The Mist
The Blob
Dracula (1931)
Frankenstein (1931)
Carrie
Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives
House on Haunted Hill (original version)
Child's Play
The Children of the Corn
Scream
Invasion of the Body Snatchers

^^

It's like reading a Rolling Stone Top 50! No offence! I like what you are doing and admire it but movies are just the same as music in that you have to dig around for the gems and there are not enough on gems on here for me. Some really great films but Hostel? Really? Children of the Corn? and no Cat People? No Martyrs is an offence, really.

Like I said, it was nominated by the community and the community has a younger demographic representation that has snuck it's way in (if it's any consolation to you, Hostel is currently getting whooped by Candyman )

No offense taken, I guess there just isn't enough interest to bother around here.

If it was a different genre or just movies in general i'd be game. How about sci fi or buddy cop films?

64 buddy cop films?

I'd be down with sci fi for sure though.

With such a small group of people on the site I think you'd have to open it up a bit more and go for movies in general, and have people give you some recommendations to keep people interested.
