From The Hollywood Reporter:

Quote:
In a call with investors, Iger said the first new Star Wars movie is targeted for 2015 and that the company planned for another movie every two to three years after that. Disney releases eight to 10 pictures per year, including one from Pixar and one or two from Marvel Studios. The plan is for a Star Wars movie in one of those tentpole slots.

Iger told investors that Star Wars is a perfect property for TV, particularly for the company's young-male-skewing network Disney XD, and plans to expand the franchise's presence in its theme parks.
Does this still sound like a great way to reinvigorate the franchise to you guys?

Eh, I prefer the Marvel studio comic book movies and I haven't disliked any of the last group of Pixar movies. Disney know they need to keep people happy and are staying true to themselves, I mean there's no way an Avengers movie would have existed 10 years ago. Besides it's not like Lucas doesn't abuse the Star Wars license, they spent millions of dollars to make Star Wars: The Old Republic only to have it fail hard and have to switch to a free to play model which is pretty embarrassing for all parties and will probably be one of the last nails in the coffin for BioWare.

Basically if Disney is going to milk the franchise, they may at least do it in an invigorating way, which is more than can be said for where Lucas would take the franchise if he were to work on it again.

That's what I'm saying though, I'd prefer it to be left alone.

Look at it this way, we might get the original 3 remastered in blu-ray, without all the changes George made for the re-releases in 1997.

I can see this going in a good direction, given the current track records. I would hope Pixar picks it up, and combines their already stellar work with motion capture. I'd probably plunk down the $$ to see it at a good theatre.

Here's the pattern I see:
  • At the peak of their success in the 90s, Disney decides to switch to a more vigorous schedule of cranking out a movie a year. Quality declines dramatically.
  • Disney begins exerting more control over Pixar. Quality declines dramatically.
  • Disney buys out LucasFilm and plans a vigorous schedule of Star Wars releases. Quality...

Oh great, Star Wars bores plague the internet enough as it is, I really look forward to seeing their incessant bitching & whining tenfold for the next decade or further.
