Not about music, but a great historical novel. If you love history, this one is for you. Because of this battle, Varus is often considered the worst military leader of all-time for being overrun by far less numbers. It was a huge blow to the Roman empire.

There's a book about Charles Mingus? I gotta read that!

I really enjoy reading books about Roman history. That sounds really interesting. Thank you.

My favorite book too! Although it just might have to share first place with Fight Club.

Right now I am reading Jurassic Park the book. Its actually quite good in my opinion, varies greatly from the film adaptation. I purchased the box set of A Game Of Thrones series because I want to read them before watching the television series. Anybody have any thoughts on them?

Oh, I love some of her poetry.

I have not read The Handmaids Tale, but I know it's popularity.

I bought The Blind Assassin, which also won several awards but I cannot make myself read it. It just sucks, in my opinion.

You're going to have to read it, it's one of the novels you must read before you die.

You really think The Blind Assassin sucks? That kind of hurts my heart. That's one of my absolute favorite books I've ever read. The only problem I have with Margaret Atwood could also be considered a tremendous compliment to her: I sometimes find myself distracted by her prose, by her writing as a whole, and certain passages really hit and resonate with me. As such, I find myself re-reading them over and over again, unable to move on with the book because I'm just so overcome with how well something has been worded. I don't know why or how; I think she just writes in the exact way I wish I was able to write, and it really hits me.

One excerpt from The Blind Assassin that really hit me for some reason, and resulted in a twenty minute delay in continuing with the book the first time around - and it's really just description and not at all necessary for the overall plot:

Then a motel that used to be called Journeys End. I suppose they were thinking of "Journeys end in lovers meeting," but not everyone could be expected to get the reference: it might have come across as too sinister, a building all entrances but no exits, reeking of aneurysms and thromboses and emptied bottles of sleeping pills and gun wounds to the head. Now it's called simply Journeys. How wise to have changed it. So much more inconclusive, so much less terminal. So much better to travel than to arrive.
And yes, many have said The Handmaid's Tale is more accessible and to their taste than a lot of her other works - although I'd certainly make a case for Alias, Grace and Cat's Eye.
