Man you guys didn't play it right. Halo CE was an okay game, yeah great shooter revolutionized xbox, whatever. Halo 3 had a solid campaign which in itself gives multiple playthroughs, multiplayer imo was epic, team snipes, team swat, grifball...so much. The community was great, and kept the game going at a max for a solid 3 years.

After going on to play the next game in any series, I don't get how you could go back and say, "I miss that ****tier looking, buggy, slow paced game after playing games like Reach and H3. I always bring myself to buy every Halo game, HCE: sold, H2: sold, H3: in my xbox 360. No need mentioning Odst, fun but pointless, Halo Wars: What the fuck did I just buy?, HR: Great game, still have it, H4: great game (and actually getting better everytime). The majority of my online gaming took part in Halo 3 so that's probably why I think it's a bloody fantastic game, Halo's peak, going down slightly on Reach, stalemate with 4, down with 5.

But for old times sake I'll give a vote to the coolest mofu'in bird on the planet, Banjo-Kazooie.

I played the first Halo when Xbox first came out. It was alright. I recently bought Halo 4 for my daughter, but I personally haven't checked it out yet.

Been a while since I've played any video games, but when my daughter was younger we'd play Mario Party, Mario Kart, Toejam and Earl, and I'd let her drive around in GTA Vice City as she did the speed limit, and obeyed the traffic laws. lol

I actually used to do that. After a few hundred hours of mayhem and cop slaughter, it's just a nice change of pace to become a law abiding citizen for once. Of course, I then proceeded to sneak around with a knife and stalk some random dude for like five minutes and then kill him when I got him alone. Then of course, there was the pirating, where I'd get a helicopter, drop out of it right over a boat, kill the driver, "boat" around and find another boat, board it, and then do it all over again. Good times.

Haha! Yep, did that type of stuff too. Stealing Tanks w/o a cheat was my favorite time waster.

As much as I love, love, love Elder Scrolls, I found that I was able to find more completely random bull**** to pass the time in the GTA games than even Oblivion.

I've been meaning to actually buy Heavy Rain after I played the demo but I never got around to it.

I completely agree with Arkham Asylum... great damn game, even for people who might not be huge fans of Batman (I am, though).

I'm on the fence about Fallout 3... the whole time I played it I kept thinking "this is just like Oblivion but in the future... And with guns... I should love this" but it just never caught on for me. Maybe the atmosphere was just too depressing. And the ending severely pissed me off. Still haven't played New Vegas.

On that note, I finally picked up Skyrim... Wow. I shouldn't have done that... I have a thesis to write...

Jedi knight 2 jedi outcast.

Old online multiplayer game. Capture the flag as a fing jedi!! Plus the skill level you coyld reach, not by leveling up, but just being good was insane. One person could take entire team, if they were good enough.

Red Dead Redemption might be my all time favorite game, but GTA IV, Assassin's Creed II, Skyrim and Bayonetta were all insanely addictive games.

I loved the first two Dark Forces games like a fat kid loves cake, but I never got to play that one. Dark Forces II was definitely one of my all time favorite games. It was the first game that you could be a jedi in, and the first game that ever let you use force lightning on unsuspecting stormtroopers. Glorious.

Jesus...do yourself a favor and play it, then. I'd wager it hasn't been long enough for the graphics to be intolerable (it was the Quake III engine). It was everything I ever wanted in a Star Wars game. It kicked Jedi Knight's ass in every way possible.

I might have to do that. And find a new copy of Jedi Knight. I might just have a nostalgiagasm.

Oh god. I remember playing that and never getting farther than like ten minutes into it about a million times back in elementary school computer classes. Same with Oregon Trail. Although, I did manage to find the time to beat that game.

Get Heavy Rain, it's not your conventional video game in that the action sequences rely on controller skill and that the game revolves around trying to solve the case of the Origami Killer from 4 different characters perspectives. As you may imagine this can lead the game into so many different tangents with the many possible life or death choices you can make with each character. It's the most emotionally investing game I've ever played I think, you genuinely get into the characters and their stories.

Arkham Asylum and Uncharted 2 were pretty close for me in which was better as both have many similarities in being fun adventure games that have their own unique personalities and traits. Uncharted's story, variety and re-playability edged it though.

It depends on what you want from a video game with Fallout 3. If you want to be engrossed in your own little world where you can do whatever the hell you want, it's for you. If you take it too seriously then, you're probably better off with Football Manager or something. I love Fallout 3 and am actually replaying it at the moment and rediscovering its magic.

I'm not a big fan of first person shooters, as you can probably tell from my list. I don't mind them and can play COD or Battlefield for an hour or so online, but they don't have much substance in my opinion. They're pretty mindless.

Red Dead Redemption I see as the game that got away. I really need to play it, just haven't gotten round to it. Everyone's always told me how great it is and I don't doubt them.

Holy ****, hit a party this weekend and homeboy had one of these in his billiard room. Played this **** til the wee hours. I miss arcade style games, flood of great memories with this game.

Red Dead Redemption was so good, captured the western feel so well and combined the American and the Spaghetti western superbly.

I used to love playing Carmen Sandiego in IT class at primary school. But it was strictly class that I would play it. I'd be too busy playing street fighter or zelda or something at home.

I found my old discs and started playing it again. I get an error every time I try to load up disc 2 though and I'm going nuts!

ZeyerGTR 01-16-2013 11:47 AM

#1 is always the same, although the rest of my top 5 change positions frequently.

1. Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast/GameCube) - super addicting, the core "three swing" mechanic is still fun after 100s of hours, there is endless stuff to do and find, randomly generated mazes keep things fresh, perfect graphics and audio, and I loved that you could take your character online and off, to play however you wanted to. My desert island game, still a blast after 100s of hours. It's a perfect mix of action and adventure, and you can play at your own pace.

2. Morrowind (PC)
3. Civilization (PC)
4. Ms. Pac Man (arcade)
5. Stuart Smith's Adventure Construction Kit (c64)

Patrick Bateman 01-29-2013 02:54 PM

10. Fallout 3
9. Batman: Arkham City
8. God of war 2
7. Ico
6. Uncharted 2
5. Oblivion
4. Red Dead Redemption
3. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
2. Resident Evil 4
1. Portal 2

Sparky 01-29-2013 04:19 PM

I like that list minus arkham city and portal 2 being the best

I tried playing them on PC and it just wasn't all that good. But you can tell they would be insane on 360/PS3.

Sparky 01-29-2013 04:32 PM

you have a bad rig? Just buy a 360 controller, same thing

Goofle 01-29-2013 04:34 PM

Yeah I have one now but not really been in the mood for it. Plus my PC isn't good enough to run the game properly.

I believe Kingdom Hearts is the best game of all time (check the username, haha). It's got everything that makes a great game I think; wonderful story, super talented voice actors, great balance of action and puzzles, side-quests for the completionists. And of course epic boss battles in tons of Disney universes! It makes you nostalgia the FIRST time you play it haha. The rest of the series doesn't live up to the standard this game set though. I think the best series of games is between the Metal Gear series and the Grand Theft Auto series. Though the Team Ico works (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) might be in contention when their latest one comes out, those games just take the art form to a whole new level.

I think that game would make a better candidate for 'personal favorite' rather than objectively a best of all time game.

khfreek 02-05-2013 03:38 AM

I mean I was basing the pick on the sheer quality of the game, rather than its influence and innovation and what have you. And I think based on that it's at least a contender; it was very critically acclaimed.

Cinnamonics 02-05-2013 09:31 AM

This one is easy, haha. My favourite game ever is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Zelda is the best series as well. At the time Ocarina & A Link to the Past opened up a magical world for me, rife with adventure, mysteries and discoveries, and is of vital importance to most anything I later searched for in various forms of entertainment. And a great asset to my imagination and creativity as well. I also enjoyed Wind Waker a lot, and Twilight Princess was simply awesome, like a OoT remix in some ways. Majora's Mask was entertaining, but it was the Gamecube version I tried out, and it proved to be too buggy to ever finish, sadly. :( As such, it's not a favourite of mine. I haven't tried Skyward Sword yet, but most people at least seem to dig it, so it's in my queue.

As for all the handheld versions, none really swept my off my feet. Some of them were enjoyable, but nothing compared to what could be experienced on console.

Psychedub Dude 02-06-2013 10:51 AM

My all time favorite game and I would say the best game of all time would be Chrono Trigger because it really brought the genre to new heights and introduced so many mechanics and things that were previously unheard of.

Also Super Mario World should be considered one of the best games of all time since it still so fresh and amazingly fun to this day.

Exo 02-06-2013 11:04 AM

I've had more fun playing super smash brothers with my friends than any other game ever. The best times have actually come after high school too. Is it the best? Probably not. It's my favorite though.

Shaolin 02-23-2013 07:09 PM

Phantasy Star Onine series - spent too much time on this game online. A new one comes out on the PSP online later this year

HM: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Bioshock, Resident Evil 4

Favourite series is probably Zelda.

RE4 is really....beyond words.

For me it's a tough choice between
  • Ocarina of Time (probably my vote)
  • Resident Evil 4
  • NBA 2k13

I could have sworn that I posted in this thread before, but whatever. I'll just post my personal Top 5:

5. Perfect Cherry Blossom
4. Portal 2
3. Persona 4
2. Fallout: New Vegas
1. To the Moon/Metal Gear Solid 2 (I know that it's a tie, but I couldn't decide as to which I prefer)

My runner-ups would be Mother 3, Virtue's Last Reward, and BioShock.

What is this nonsense!?

Alright, I am NOT bashing you or anything, but you HAVE to elaborate on Sons of ****ing Liberty being in your list. I though MGS2 was fun, but if you're going to include a Metal Gear Solid game, it has to be MGS.

Raiden is one of the worst main character I've ever seen in a video game.
