Kingdom Hearts 1 was NOT a polished game. It is thoroughly outclassed by the single in almost every possible objective category.

That being said, KH1 is still a good game and it brings a lot of great things to the table.

I dunno about that, the story in the first one was pretty great. The sequel got kind of wacky later on haha.

Kh2 definitely had a better combat system and cooler worlds but the first one had a better story imo. I wouldnt consider either of them the GOAT though.

Also, I hated that gummy ship bull **** haha

Well story is a subjective matter, and I actually might even agree that KH1 had a better story (the Organization 13 stuff feels a bit contrived at times). The objective things, like graphics, camera, battle mechanics, features, worlds, customization options, etc are all heavily in favor of KH2, which is of no fault to KH1, they just had several years to polish the really rough parts of KH1.

But yeah, I wouldn't nominate either of these games for GOAT anyway. A game needs to be a flawless experience, where every single aspect is just mind-blowing. Gameplay, music, and graphics all have to come together in an effortless amalgamation of beauty.

And that's why my nomination for greatest game of all-time is now, always has been, and always will be:

Yeah the story just didnt really flow well like the original. I didnt care as much about what was going on but it definitely had more polish like you said. The whole thing with Roxas(?) in the beginning was way too dragged out. I dont remember 2 as much as 1 though. I played through the original quite a few times when I was a kid but only cleared the sequel once.

But even as much polish and added content as KH2 had I still think the first one is the better game.

Also HELL YES donkey kong is the illest **** ever

I'm the opposite, I can't even get through the first one again because the camera is so bad and the fights feel so clunky compared to the fluid visual spectacle that the second game provides. I know I 100%'d the second one and went through it probably five times, I couldn't get enough of it back when I was like 12 lol.

(DISREGARD THIS. I wasn't in the best mood when I originally typed this post, and I actually feel really embarrassed about it now. :/ I'm leaving the quote up as a reference for a future post, though)

I have a hard time choosing Chain of Memories, KH, or KH2 as the best game of the series. Days was pretty respectable as well.

It doesn't matter that I was personally underwhelmed by these new replacements, as they're objectively brilliant!

(I apologize for going off on a tangent, but I just got really annoyed about that particular line in his post. I also really don't want anyone to think that this post implies that I think that anyone in here is lying about their choices. I really don't, but I want to remind everyone that my list (and, really, everyone else's) just consists of personal favorites. It's just odd seeing how a lot of people talk about their favorite albums and mention that music is subjective, and yet they don't have the same mindset for games and imply that they have to be objectively great to be worthy of being praised as a favorite. I could name quite a large number of problems with my favorite games (and not just the ones I mentioned in my last post), and I'd still love them and consider them to be my favorites, despite the fact that they're not objectively great. I'd just like to apologize in advance for sounding a bit hostile in my post.)

I just meant that it is weird that you would choose MGS2. I can't find anything (gameplay, or otherwise) that the second one did better than the MGS.

Right, and the point of this thread also isn't to debate the merits of each game that each member has posted in a spirited discussion to reach some sort of conclusion.

Take a fucking chill pill, bro.

^Again, I apologize for that. I just get really annoyed when someone questions me just because I prefer a certain game over it's more popular predecessor (and the fact that I've dealt with much worse responses to my opinions doesn't help). I admittedly wasn't in the best mood when I read the post I replied to, so I really did go overboard with that response (even though I am serious about my dislike of solely using objective factors to determine if someone likes a game. I know that you (or most people in this thread, for that matter) weren't really doing that, though. I was kind of venting a bit more about Tuna's old post, which, combined with the quoted line in my last post, set me off).

To be honest, as convulted as it is, the plot and dialogue kept me hooked like almost no other game has, and I personally think that the latter is the best in the medium (the fact that the actual gameplay's fun doesn't hurt either). As YorkeDaddy mentioned, story is subjective, but I loved the insanity of it all, which is why I honestly felt a bit disappointed with MGS3, as great as it is. I felt as though Kojima was pandering to the fans who were disappointed with MGS2, and while it still worked perfectly fine, it just didn't have the same pull that 2 had because of that IMO.

Also, on the subject of Kingdom Hearts, I agree with you about Days being respectable, even if it did have some missions that I loath with a passion.
