Any Doctor Who fans out there?

Ok, so I'm freaking stoked about Season 7 starting this fall! Anyone else out there a big fan? Who's your favorite Doctor? I think David Tennant will always be my Doctor at heart.

Also, who's your favorite villian?

KW710 08-21-2012 11:12 AM

Really? No one?

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-21-2012 11:17 AM

There are, I imagine you'll find more when the series starts.

Favourite Villain ? From the classic series I think the Ice Warriors are due a return.
From the books - Faction Paradox.
From the new series the Weeping Angels by far.

Unknown Soldier 08-21-2012 11:42 AM

Huge Doctor Who fan but can't stand the new series. Still watch the old series now and again.

Trollheart 08-21-2012 01:04 PM

I'm a Tennant fan too: think he really made the role his own in a way only Baker and Pertwee really managed. That said, it should be pointed out that I got into DW around the Pertwee era. But since it came "back" it's been mostly great, I just wish Chris had stayed on: thought he was great.

Some excellent storylines (some terrible ones too) but overall it's been great and I'm really looking forward to the new season. Can't believe I used to read mags like "Dreamwatch" and "SFX" where there would be regular appeals to bring the show back, and it never seemed like it would happen. Now you can't really imagine BBC without it!

Janszoon 08-21-2012 03:57 PM

I'm voting Tennant too. I was a little kid when Baker was the Doctor so he also has a special place in my heart.

rockfan1 08-22-2012 03:30 AM

I only got into Dr Who as an adult. Love it (though I don't religiously watch it week in - week out), I think steven Moffat (sp?) writes fantastic storylines!

I kind of wish they'd do a spin-off series on SyFy or something just focused on the Time Wars. I think that'd be awesome, maybe something a la Battlestar Galactica

I disagree, I think it would suck.

The whole point of the Time War is that it's this massive event that's a mystery.
The fact that you don't know about it what makes it the pivotal moment in the series.

It's just a back story that would just be ruined by over explaining everything.

Unknown Soldier 08-22-2012 04:44 PM

So what's everybody's favourite top 10 stories, mine in no set order.

1. Ice Warriors
2. Genesis of the Daleks
3. Talons of Weng Chiang
4. Web of Fear
5. Seeds of Doom
6. Tomb of the Cybermen
7. The Dalek Masterplan
8. Pyramids of Mars
9. Brain of Morbius
10. The Time Warrior

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-22-2012 05:20 PM

I'll bite

1. Inferno
2. Blink
3. City Of Death
4. A Good Man Goes To War
5. Ambassadors Of Death
6. Genesis Of The Daleks
7. Ghost Light
8. The Awakening
9. The War Games
10. Human Nature/The Family Of Blood

Mrd00d 08-22-2012 06:17 PM

That's a tough one that I'll have to come back to. I'm only familiar with Christopher Eccleston through Matt Smith. I still haven't seen the older series or read any of the books, etc.

I really enjoyed Tennant, but I think each of the Doctors I've seen have done the role justice.

KW710 08-22-2012 07:00 PM

I'm going to have to revisit that question. Almost finished with Season 6, have to get it done before Season 7 premieres!

KW710 08-22-2012 07:00 PM

Does it bother anyone that the book and audio series mythologies diverged slightly from the TV Show mythology?

Same here.

I only started to watching Dr Who recently starting with Matt Smith, and I been trying catch-up ever since. My favorites are David Tennant and Matt Smith I know most people have a fondness for previous Doctors. But I think Smith is pretty good. I love Catherine Tate, Karen Gillan and Billie Piper.

KW710 08-23-2012 11:01 AM

I think so far, Martha Jones and the Ponds are my favorite companions. I wasn't a huge fan of Rose.

In what way? The books didn't.
All of the BBC Past Doctor Adventures & Virgin Missing Adventures are set in between gaps in existing television stories. The Virgin New Adventures took off from where the series finished in 1989 and towards the end foreshadowed the 8th doctor TV Movie, and the BBC 8th doctor stories carried on after the TV Movie.

Anyway the TV show doesn't even follow itself. That's why The Daleks have 2 histories and don't even attempt to try to find dates to fit any sort of timeline for the U.N.I.T. stories broadcast.

I thought of including both Inferno and Ambassadors of Death. The first ever Pertwee season was one of the most unique ever and had a special feel to it. Also Spearhead From Space the first Auton adventure and The Silurians were also classics as well. War Games is another classic and adventure for adventure the Troughton era may have just been the best. Saw Invasion recently and its another great story.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-23-2012 12:55 PM

Full colourized Ambassadors is being released on DVD in a couple of months.

Been waiting 13 years for this :tramp:

Mrd00d 08-23-2012 04:05 PM

Was checking this out:

Life Outside The TARDIS: David Tennant (Part 1) | Anglophenia | BBC America

Shows David Tennant's other acting roles. I can't believe I didn't recognize him in that Harry Potter cameo...

9/1/12 Asylum of the Daleks!

KW710 08-23-2012 04:38 PM

Am I the only one who's a little tired of the Daleks? Bring on some other villains!

They really have exhausted the Daleks, I really don't know why they went so overboard with them.

KW710 08-23-2012 05:24 PM

I mean, they were a cult favorite for people I think, and then when they introduced the Time Wars element, since they were the opponents to the Time Lords in the war, I guess it only made sense to feature them more. At this point though, I don't really feel like they're worthy adversaries of the Doctor anymore.

They've been a cult favourite since 1963 when they first appeared.

KW710 08-23-2012 06:35 PM

Well, yeah, but I was saying that they seem to be the predominant villain in the new series, probably because of the whole Time War deal.

Mrd00d 08-23-2012 06:39 PM

I guess we'll see. I recognize your complaint, but it is what it is and I'll still enjoy it I reckon.

I think they should've used a different Alien race for this and kept the Daleks in reserve for something else, they'll always be the biggest Dr.Who enemies.

Zyrada 08-24-2012 04:58 PM

I feel like the Daleks should have been put on the back burner for a while after the second series finale. Not to mention the silliness inherent in "completely annihilating" a race so many times even though that's clearly not the case.

I'm hoping to get BBC America added to my cable plan before the beginning of next month so I can watch the premiere. I didn't spend a month playing catch-up after being newly introduced to the show last spring for nothing!

Your name sounds like an alien race in Dr.Who.

Holy crap! Who is she? Bye bye Amy Pond! I need this series to start, er, let's see ... NOW!

Mrd00d 08-30-2012 05:30 PM

But the fact that she seems to secretly want to be on the Jersey Shore loses some brownie points, but pics 4 and 2 really are great...

This should be interesting...

A little concerned what they'll do with the dinosaurs though. But generally, it looks like they're trying their damndest to entertain!

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-30-2012 06:40 PM

I'm looking forward to the Power Of Three.

For anyone who's not seen the synopsis for that story, the Earth gets invaded by lots of little black boxes that don't do anything. the Doctor has to wait to find out what going to happen and so takes up residence in the Ponds home.

Also, Mark Williams from the Fast Show plays Rory's Dad.

Trollheart 08-30-2012 07:19 PM

Hmm. I'm actually more concerned about another Daleks story.... I mean, how much more can they do with this? They even showed us the inside of a Dalek, took away the mystery, and yet back they came. Not that I don't like them, I do, I love them. But you just wonder when they'll ever think of retiring them.

"Daleks on the dole" by Stephen Moffat?
