Have to say, even though I like Smith, I prefer Tennant. Smith's doctor comes across a little too "bumbling" for my taste. How does he ever win? He doesn't know anything! Tennant at least came across as someone who seemed like an expert at traveling through time and space. And he managed to seem both approachable and dangerous at the same time. Smith, not so dangerous (although to be fair, in Season 6 of the reboot, seeing him blowing up random ships just to prove a point was pretty freaking sweet.)
Spoiler for Also, everyone watch Asylum of the Daleks yet? :

Bump because the new doctor is to be revealed tonight!
Just started to get into Doctor Who as an adult and while I'm still on the tenth doctor and haven't moved on to Matt Smith yet, I don't think anyone is going to top David Tennant for me He is brilliant! Any idea who the new doctor is? There are a fair few favourites on the cards but from what I've seen in the past sometimes the favourites turn out to be not even close. I wouldn't mind another eccentric young spunk with crazy hair |

I'm mainly referring to the new generation Doctor Who series, however, I have seen some (but not all) of the classic series. I really don't think they can be judged side by side, can they?! I'd always watched the show here and there, but wanted to start getting into it properly, so my whovian family members recommended I start with the tenth doctor, so David Tennant's series are the only ones I've watched consistently from beginning to end, despite being familiar with various parts of the old and new series already. |

No the two series are quite different, the original was far more creative and diverse than the current series ever could be, whereas the newer series despite some good ideas, is largely aimed at getting maximum viewing figures on UK television.

With the exception of a small handful of stories Doctor Who in the 1980s was terrible.

I was talking about it as a whole. I know that in the 1980s it was a far weaker series than in the 60s and 70s but it still had interesting ideas and a quaint feel and it still has a certain amount of nostalgia for me.

Forget the new Doctor, the real news this weekend is my Doctor Who cookie cutters are on their way.

I love the older Doctor Who episodes I've seen for pure nostalgia of 60s sci fi (am a fan of other older sci fi series) however call me lame but I'm actually enjoying the newer series more as I find it more relevant and relatable... I'm of Gen Y though, I'm only 25, so this could probably play a role in my opinion. |
