I on the other hand am not concerned. I see your concern as valid, but ... its nothing to sweat, I figure. Yes, they showed us what the Daleks really look like. We understand the power struggle in their organization. We've seen too much to just say well that's that. So basically, I feel the opposite. As long as they're not the only rivals to the Doctor in the season I won't be disappointed. If every single episode was Dalek related we'd have a problem. A big one...

Having grown up in a place where no Doctor Who has been ever broadcast, I started watching it last year, from the beginning Challenging sometimes but I like the show very much. Now with Tom Baker, season 12. So far the best doctor is Jon Pertwee.

Wow! Am I jealous! Just to let you know, when you get to the "new" Dr Who (from Chris Eccleston through David Tennant to Matt Smith) the production values go right through the roof, and the stories are very together (mostly) but it becomes more an entertainment than a hard sci-fi show, which is how I remember the Pertwee/Baker era of the seventies.

Wish I could watch it all again for the first time....

And I thought there were no advantages in the iron curtain! NOW you envy ME

I've watched lots of British sitcom over the last five or so years, I guess I started running out of the good ones so that I turned to Doctor Who Don't get this wrong, the show is great.

And I made another discovery along the way, Jon Pertwee's Worzel Gummidge. How wish I could've watched it as a kid... but on the other hand I'm enjoying it now

Production values may have gone through the roof, but instead we got a show where interesting stories just went out of the window. The amount of stories that were set in either modern day London or Cardiff was staggering and the amount of historical stories was taking the piss as well. Whatever happened to wandering through diverse alien planets!

Yeah, like I said, it became less of a sci-fi and more an entertainment show. I mean, it's mainly aimed at kids/families now. The older seasons didn't place so much emphasis on family (which is not a bad thing by any means, but usually sf shows don't tend to show the mum and dad, or only mention them in passing or to bring in some conflict story for one of the characters --- thinking "The Icarus factor" and "Brothers" in STNG or "Born to the purple" in Babylon 5), whereas DW now seems to be very concerned with hammering home the "home is where the heart is" ethic. The Christmas shows are entertaining, but a little silly.

Still, there have been SOME good stories:
Spoiler for Episode titles:
"Blink" and "Father's Day" spring to mind, as does "The end of the world". Then of course, against that you have "Tooth and claw" and "Victory of the Daleks" --- ugh!

Yeah I agree; you'd think with the virtually unlimited budget they have now, they could afford to explore a little more...

I'm watching the reboot, then going to work my way from the first doctor: Started with the ninth.

Loved Eccleston, and was afraid Tennant was going to be too campy for my taste. I've been pleasantly surprised thus far. Tennant's tenth Doctor is a fantastically well-rounded character, humorous and charming, but definitely more complexity than I was expecting.

I liked Tennant, but I felt he got far too smug in his later episodes.
