In addition to the Wire Jansz, I'd definitely check out Oz (the earlier seasons at least), Deadwood, and The Sopranos. I've yet to see Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones or Six Feet Under but I want to get to them all at some point.
Yeah, I've always been kind of vaguely curious about Oz. Deadwood I've kind of heard bad things about but I may check it out at some point. Sopranos is definitely on my to-watch list.

Heh. I have a strong suspicion you and I would have hung out if we went to junior high together.

What would you say was your favorite episode? I was a big fan of "Dig That Cat...He's Real Gone" with Joe Pantoliano, the one about the bum who gets nine lives.

there are so many good ones....but right of the top of my head is "And All Through The House"....the one about the shallow rich lady and her visit from Santa Claus....absolute classic

Hah, Joey Pants. That's one of my favorite episodes too.

If you like him, he has a big role in The Sopranos. One of my favorite characters on that show (in a love to hate way).

You left out these guys.

Liked > Tales from the Crypt
Didn't do much for me, couldn't get past the Law and Order guy > Oz
Hated > Sex and the City
Liked but came in after a few seasons and only caught occasional episodes > The Sopranos
Loved, was addicted to even though it was buried here in a crappy time slot and often bumped for some other crap > Six Feet Under
Haven't seen > The Wire
Haven't seen > Deadwood
Not interested > Entourage
Liked enough to buy the DVDs but didn't love > Curb Your Enthusiasm
Haven't seen > Game of Thrones
