I wonder what kind of pop culture references Tarantino will manage to sneak into this one.

Samuel L. Jackson has a pretty significant role, actually.

Looking forward to this with tongue firmly in cheek.

Does this have anything to do with Django Reinhardt?

No. Why would it?

I hope it's not as superficial as his latest films (like the Kill Bills and Inglourious Basterds), but actually has substance, f.ex dialogue which is meant to do more than drive the plot forwards while making the right characters seem really cool.

Tarantino has been overrated for a while, I think, but I'm still looking forward to this even if I'm a tiny bit sceptical.

There was a screening this weekend. The audience liked it.

So far we're looking at 80 on Metacritic, 100 on Rotton Tomatoes, and 5 Golden Globe nominations including best picture.

New clips to whet your appetites too. I could not be more excited for a film than I am for this one.

Django Unchained

Okay so basically I loved this movie up until the last 30 minutes. I'm strictly speaking of everything that happened after Christoph Waltz was killed. For me he made the entire movie and it was a film about him more than Django. Waltz has now cemented my feet in front of anything he will ever do ever again. He is that mesmerizing. His character in this one was a more moral Hans Landa but his mannerisms and facial expressions remained pretty much the same. This is one of the only times I can say that I would love to have the same character in every movie. Don't get me wrong...I also implore Waltz to do different things, but if every future movie I saw with him was a variation on Hans Landa...it wouldn't be too bad.

From the shootout to the credits I wanted the film to just end. The shootout happened after nearly no buildup that we're used to seeing in QT's films and this particular one was rushed and resembled other gruesome action pieces albeit with more blood and quick cuts. The "redemption" of Django also just didn't sit well with me because Django wasn't even the second strongest character in the film. It felt disjointed and incoherent and I hated it all. QT's cameo didn't help.

That being said I enjoyed the shot out of the first two plus hours. I thought the dialogue was great and it really was one of the funniest films I've seen this year. Don Johnson as Big Daddy was fantastic and Leonardo and Sam Jackson were a great team of lunatic southern jackasses. They were both perfect.

One thing I might add is the loss of Sally Menke is going to make a huge difference in QT's films from this point forward. The woman was just incredible at her job. She is like the wheels on the Tarantino vehicle and without them it may look nice but it just doesn't run the same. The whole film had weird cuts and strange flashbacks that just felt odd. I miss her already.

Overall its a perfect film with a horrible ending that I'll see again but won't consider it QT's best. The ending really did just kill it for me. Christoph Waltz should win another Oscar.

8/10

Well if you're not going to spoiler it I will.
Not hiding spoilers of a movie that's not even out in most parts of the world yet may not be against the rules but it is a dickish thing to do.
