Up to the second book. I've waited for Stannis to appear and I'm really liking him already. I don't know if he's only in the prelude but he's just my kind of character. Kind of stern, strong and somewhat honourable but contemptuous (I don't blame him with all the **** they pulled). Kind of like an angry version of Eddard. I think he may quickly become a favourite character and he's really interesting in what he may do.
I dislike Renly so far by the way.

Strange about Renly, he's just an average character with not too much to like or dislike about him.

Just went to Chapters (which basically has a monopoly over retail-based book sales in Canada) to pick up the 5th book and saw it's only in hardcover. I looked it up online and saw the paperback is going to be released in late March, at least in Chapters. It was released 2 years ago and still isn't in paperback. Am I missing something here? I'll dish out the extra $20 if I have to but that seems a little ridiculous to me.

That's an unfortunate common thing with the fantasy genre, at least with the really popular books. I remember back in the '90's my mum would have to go on waiting lists months in advance to get a copy of the newest Wheel of Time book. Speaking of that serious, apparently Jordan's wife is afraid releasing it in an ebook format would not make the book as popular on the top releases or something and wants to delay its digital release by a year, which is probably the earliest anybody will see a softcover. Just one of those things you have to get use to unfortunately.
