Yikes, talk about drama in tonight's episode!

Spoiler for from tonight:
Dale?! Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

On a positive note, they actually gave T-Dog a line or two.

NSW 03-04-2012 08:56 PM

I also liked that :
Spoiler for In tonight's episode...:
They had Andrea side with Dale on not killing Randall. Dale's character was so moving in this episode, imo. It's a shame the way they had him die.

Spoiler for tonight:
Yeah, I liked that too. Maybe she'll move away from being my most hated character on the show.

I also enjoyed the implication that Dale's death might be the thing that brings Daryl back from the edge, maybe even making him the group's moral compass in the absence of Dale.

Spoiler for ...:
It's strange because in the comic's she's so different in alot of ways. She was always one of my favorite characters, unlike the show in which, yes, she's pretty much a straight up bitch. Until tonight, when I was really impressed with the turn her character took. And actually, the character I dislike the most on the show is Lori. Ugh. I just don't understand her at all...the decisions she makes, the little rants she goes off on...whatever.

I didn't really make the connection that Dale's death would bring Daryl back, but now that you mention it, it makes a lot of sense. Daryl's characters has been intriguing almost from the very beginning. It's like you just never know what turn he's going to take next.

This page of posts is starting to look ridiculous.

Yeah, Lori bugs me too. Actually, I have to admit pretty much all the female characters bug me except Maggie. I don't think the writers do enough with them generally.

As far as Daryl goes, I really think the fact that he was the one to step up and pull the trigger in the end really says something about him. In a lot of ways he's more like what Shane likes to think of himself than Shane is: the rogue of the group, the perpetual outsider, the untiring protector, the guy who does what has to be done when the chips are down. If you think about it, when push comes to shove, Shane pretty consistently fails to live up to what he thinks he is.

Here...let's try it!

Spoiler for Pete....turn away, for the love of Jebus and everything right in the world.:
It would be very interesting if Merle came back somehow (alive or otherwise) and threw a kink in Daryl's life and his position in the group. It's got to happen at some point.

I think you hit the nail on the head with Shane. Shane is pretty annoying as well. He should be dead by now. :/

Oh, and I had to chuckle when T-Dog finally got to speak, and Dale cut him off...haha. Poor guy is never gonna get any action.

What do you think of Carl's character and the direction he's taking?

Well then I'll obviously have to read it, you need to employ reverse psychology on the likes of me. Put something along the lines of "Pete, don't not not not don't read this" because by the time I figure out if I need to read it or not I'll get distracted by something shiny and the secrets will remain as such.

How about "No worries Pete, this is just a spoiler for Desperate Housewives"?

LoathsomePete 03-04-2012 10:05 PM

I'm not really all that invested in The Walking Dead in any case so I don't mind reading the spoilers. In a way you've actually just freed up an hour of my life I can spend reading a book, or doing my laundry, or staring meaningfully at a piece of artwork while breathlessly rubbing myself through my trouser pocket so I suppose I should thank you.

Spoiler for No! Bad Pete!:
Heh. Yeah, that part with T-Dog was pretty funny. I really hope they start doing more with his character soon though.

As far a Carl goes, I don't know what to make of it. Hopefully he doesn't start going completely psycho on them.

I assume Merle IS coming back at some point. I'm pretty surprised he isn't back already but I'm assuming he's going to show up as the leader of that group of 30 in the season finale or at the beginning of next season.

What do you think of Carl's character and the direction he's taking?

Spoiler for the walking dead:

I think Carl is losing his humanity. He is beginning to become reckless, maybe even psychopathic. I think being responsible for Dale's death is going to have an impact on him though.

It's interesting to note that Carl didn't really seem upset about Dale until he saw it was the same zombie that he failed to kill.

Will this means he snaps out of the psychotic behavior or will it only make it worse?

Dr_Rez 03-05-2012 10:04 PM

Honestly all this he is becoming this and should do that is boring the living hell out of me. (get it?) The first 6 episodes were like a good zombie show/movie should be. Lots of action, moving around, zombies, and less feelings. Zombies and cities....? best ocmbination ever, to bad we havnt seen a real city since season 1 beginning. CDC?... awesome and exciting. The god damned farm has been the downfall of the show. I may as well be watching a soap opera on channel 2. The only reason Im still wathcing it is because

1. maybe they will wise up with enough complains and actually move it along.

2. i have spent way to much time watching it to just stop now.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-05-2012 10:30 PM

Man, I think that sums up people's issues with this show.

Zombie fans want gore and action.

I'm a huge fan of network and cable dramas though so having one that happens to be set in the zombie Apocalypse with great acting and cinematic direction is like having one continuous orgasm throughout the show.

Dont get me wrong I want some drama with character development, I just think it has a time and place. 4/5th's of a apocalyptic zombie takeover is not the place or time. If the show would have started like that I would understand but the first season was almost like an entirely different show.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-05-2012 10:41 PM

It is interesting that the slowed pace and fixed location of the second season mirrors the second season of Lost. Whereas the first season of that show was more fast paced and about practical elements of survival, the second season focused mainly on the hatch and the character's relationships inside of it, much like Hershel's farm.

Doesn't mean anything, just found it interesting.

I hear that since the original showrunner left, can't be assed to remember his name, the show is picking up the pace again. Although he crafted the initial six episodes to be more action oriented, they say it was him who wanted to drag out some of the plot elements in the second season's first half.

Janszoon 03-05-2012 10:54 PM

I have no problem at all with the pacing. If they had kept up the pace of the first season into the second there'd be nobody left alive. So far there's been plenty of drama on the farm to keep me interested, though I do think they need to take season three elsewhere.

That's an interesting point about the second season of Lost Conan. It would be great if, in keeping with the Lost parallel, they did a season further down the line that mostly took place in the past, explaining the origins of the outbreak.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-05-2012 11:00 PM

Well, let's just hope they don't do a whole season in 1976. :p:

SATCHMO 03-06-2012 01:35 AM

I'm sorry, but I watched the mid-season opener a few weeks ago and thought it was lame. Maybe I should get caught up.

Guybrush 03-06-2012 03:13 AM

What is it with guys like Rick and Shane not looking at each other when they talk? Instead they're shoulder to shoulder both, staring intensely at whatever else. Shane in particular seems to do it with most people.

Weirdos.

Guybrush 03-07-2012 01:36 AM

Spoiler for If you haven't seen S02E10, then this may be a huge spoiler:
I also liked Dale. He added a lot of colour to the group and I was sad to see him go. T-Dog's just an empty shell of a man at the moment .. perhaps with Dale out of the way, they'll develop him some more.

You've really never seen people do that in real life? Maybe it's just a cultural thing but it doesn't seem that odd to me.

My guess would be that technique is used to draw people into the dialogue. I'll have to see if I notice it next show. It might also be used as a method to create tension between the two as they don't like each other.

I have a tendency of doing this sort of thing a lot. I'll stare just to the left or right of your face and turn my eye, but not my face, towards you if I want to make a point, but otherwise I don't even look at you when I'm having a dialogue. That or I'll look through you - glaze right through you with that thousand yard stare. Some say eye contact and truth are relevant, but I disagree to an extent.

someonecompletelyrandom 03-07-2012 06:23 PM

Same. Although I make a lot of eye contact it is always a little calculated, with looking off into space for a few moments in between. I find most people do this.

Janszoon 03-11-2012 10:32 PM

Woah, nice episode tonight...

Spoiler for Nothing to see here, Pete:
And hell-fucking-yes to Shane finally getting bumped off, it was about time! But what's going on with the disease? How did Shane and Randall contract it without being bitten? And how did they come back to life so fast? It took Andrea's sister all night if I remember correctly.

Can't wait for the season finale! And as I side note I was happy to see T-Dog back actually doing stuff and having lines in this episode!

LoathsomePete 03-12-2012 01:41 AM

God damn it!

It was indeed. Lots of stuff happened and it left me really excited for the season finale, which looks to be pretty intense. Plus, T Dog was actually in a bunch of scenes for once.

I bet it's like I predicted ..

Spoiler for The Derping Dead:
Getting rid of Dale finally means the T-Dawg can get some screen time!

Anyways, thanks for the review! Looking forward to watching it later this evening. :)

Extremely, incredibly pleased with last night's episode. The finale should be outstanding!
