Yup. The 3rd season started off very well, I think so far they manged to fix everything I was complaining about. I don't want to post any spoilers so that's as specific as I'll get.

So I watched the season 3 premiere early today and was very happy with what I saw. While I prefer to see characters mature in real-time, I was very happy to see where the characters were at, especially Carl who is just a little zombie killing badass. It may have taken them two seasons, but they've finally accomplished what most zombie movies can achieve in the first 20 minutes. In all fairness to the show, it at least kept my interest enough to follow it.
Spoiler for spoilers:

I was also struck in a positive way in regard to the season opener. Of course, being a zombie fanatic either way, I couldn't give a sh*t less if the show was a soap or not, so I guess you could call me biased.
I would literally be overjoyed if they introduced zombie cats into this season. As long as it's dead, I like it... |

I like the subtleties of this show, especially in regards to the humanizing of the characters. I think in a lot of zombie-related films the characters become desensitized too quickly, and become accustomed to the survivalist lifestyle too easily. I like that the characters here are still relatively resistant to that conversion and hang on to the past in a way that's not obnoxious, but relatable. Rick, for example, taking the cat food away from Carl, and Carol flirting uncomfortably with Daryl. I think the show is very well done - season two was fantastic television. I have high hopes for the current season.
