Dude, the pointless side quests and hours of exploring are the entire point. The actual main quest is just sorta there. It's not the point.

Yes. I remember in Oblivion I used to go around the country side Sneaking with a bow trying to hunt rats and wolves without being seen for hours.

You don't have to, but I would recommend it! They've put a lot of work into filling the world with stuff to do and the main storyline represents a tiny part of the game. It would be sad not to experience more of it.

Actually I've never been hunting. I've also never been to a farm. I don't even have a southern accent. I live in the Southeast of VA which is pretty metropolitan (at least compared to the some parts of VA). My family are actually Irish Catholic immigrants that lived in New York up until my grand parents moved away.

As for Skyrim, only just started and have escaped having my head getting chopped off thanks to the dragon and have escaped with Helvar through the tunnels, and now we have just split up and saved it there. |

So I've abandoned my first game and made a new character, starting from the beginning. I just felt like I made a lot of dumb choices for perks and leveling for my first character (Breton) as I wanted to go strictly warrior and one-handed.
New character is a Nord. Troy Des Aladem. I was surprised at how much better the Nord is at stabbing right from the get-go! This time around, I'm not giving a single point to magical stuff, with the exception of Enchanting. And I'm going through the story first, then exploring later... because on my previous character, I was doing the opposite, and I kept getting distracted by wondering what the main story was all about. I just feel better about getting it out of the way then exploring the world and doing side quests when I don't feel like there's this huge agenda that I'm supposed to be on.

If you're going straight up warrior, Nord is the way to go.
