a bit late to the party
my first play was slaughtering the entire village of Riverwood second play was mostly stealing and pickpocketing only just started playing it normally a few days ago - i'm at level 15 - completed all the whiterun missions except the Companions' quests the best bits are the dragon skirmishes - they give me minor heart attacks - once i got too near to a felled dragon and he ate me |

I don't think I'm going to train much more with pick pocketing though as I rarely ever come across anybody with anything I want that I can't just kill and take off the corpse. With my boots, a ring, and a few potions I can pretty much get away with most things, and then I can always just buy training to get a little better if I need to. Like the time I had to pick pocket a jewel off the old beggar lady in Windhelm for Delvin, and had her train me in it, then I stole all my money back along with the jewel. I think if I play a thief class again I'm going to focus more on magic based stats, that could be a lot more challenging, but also more fun. |

Don't you only have to unlock the shouts you've discovered with the dragon souls you've absorbed? There were a bunch of shouts in my inventory that weren't lit up, and I just unlocked them all at once, so I don't think it's wasted. I did almost 10 at once when I figured out that was all I needed to do.

I've brought my other fighting attributes up considerably since the last time I've posted (two-handed - 85, one handed - 68, archery - 40, heavy armor - 65, light armor - 50). I've all but abandoned destruction magic (it takes me a good half a minute to kill a random bandit with destruction spells), but it's gotten to the point where I don't feel like I need it anyways, as I've completed the Winterhold College and Dark Brotherhood questlines, along with the Civil War questline (which was unbelievably easy, which was a bit disappointing). The disparity in difficulty in some quests are really noticeable for me (probably because of my skill with melee weapons as opposed to magic, I guess). I walked through the civil war questline, but it took me like 20 tries at least to kill that Knevel guy in that Volunruud sidequest, and I lost my best follower doing it. The final room battle with Patema and the mage in the Temple of Meridia were unbelievably tough as well. Last edited by Thom Yorke; 08-09-2012 at 04:27 PM. |

Are you on PC or console? It took me a bit to figure it out on PC, but when you select a shout to unlock, on the menu below I think you press R to unlock the shout. It will tell you. Once you press it, it will ask if you want to spend a soul. |
