Am I going to have to bust out the console and forcibly advance the quest?

Also horses are useless and disappointing in this game as they currently stand. Once I'm able to fire my bow and hunt some wild game from horseback is the only time I'll bother with them again. I figure it's only a matter of time before it's properly modded into the game.
I play on the 360, after they ask you to test your voice, each of the brotherhood should ask you to do individual tests in the centre of the room, if you don't do them properly then you can't advance, there are about three of these shouting tests before moving out into the yard for the final test.

That's what I figured should happen but the conversation isn't progressing past the first request for a demonstration. There's only one person I can speak with and he just keeps repeating himself and ignoring the fact that I just shouted in his face while standing in the center of the room.

Sounds like a bug, without doing this you can't continue on the main quest. Only thing I can suggest is to look for a visual walkthrough of that section just in case you've overlooked something, there's loads of visial walkthroughs of most sections of the game.

Ugh, I noticed I wrote something very wrong in this thread, that there is no 2-hander skill. Of course I meant there's no dual-wield skill, but I guess people understood it even if I got it wrong.

mr_dave, what a crappy place to have a bug! You learn/improve some shouts during those steps of the quest so if you cheat past them, make sure you also use console commands to give yourself the shouts/words lost.

Depends on what you mean by "nothing to offer". There are a number of quests in the town, and plenty of random areas in the surrounding hills.

Compared to the other towns, there are hardly any quests. There are only about five buildings!

Not seen it yet, but seems more like a village, something like Riverwood maybe?

It's about the size of a village but it's considered a city, because of the university I expect.

That's what I was afraid of, apparently there's a new patch being tested internally on Steam so I'll just wait a few more days and hope it fixes itself.
