At the moment I'm in Windhelm toying with the idea of joining the Stormcloaks or not. I've not had any real dealings with the Thalmor, but I know the Aldmeri Dominion is the big rival of the Empire (Imperials). I guessed the Stormcloaks might have sided with them, but having learnt that they despise the Elves that's not going to be the case. Saying that though, the Stormcloak dislike of the Elves is focused on the Dark Elves from Morrowind who arrived in Windhelm as refugees, so I'm not sure if their hatred is focused on the Thalmor as well. Basically I'm much further behind in the game than you guys and this is the info I've picked up so far.

If we're talking faction politics, then surely any Stormcloak success in creating an independent Skyrim would only create a new nation with a war on two borders, one against the empire and another against the Thalmor. The new nation Skyrim would also have inner turmoil because many Skyrimmers (ho-ho) support the empire and these people would have to be fought/defeated by Stormcloaks which really makes them even more assholy. Plus, the empire would also be weakened against the Thalmor and their scheme to put the whole continent under their rule.
Add to that the funny fact that the God they think so highly of actually founded the empire and it should be clear to anyone that siding with the Stormcloaks for religious/political reasons is not sound reasoning

Oh man! It would be cool if you could Unfortunately, Skyrim's not free enough to allow you to kill Ulfric and the general. It would be interesting if that was the case, though. As far as I know, you can complete the main story line without siding with a faction so how much could they ruin the game by allowing you to kill both?

General question here. As everybody knows you can choose your character and race at the beginning of the game. But does the character you choose influence the flow of the game? For example, can an Orc join the Stormcloaks and say if you are a Khajiit can you be excluded from certain places!!!
