Is there a genre between Fiction and Sci-Fi? Something where a character can or does go beyond reality but doesn't live in a world that accepts it. Or notices it?
For an example, in O'Brien's The Things They Carried one of the women becomes one with the Jungle, in so far as she disappears into it. Its hard to tell whether O'Brien means she materialized into the Jungle, but needless to say it isn't a book filled with mutants and the setting is not only a familiar world, but its Vietnam. So the world is ours, but the experiences are almost supernatural. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
