Default The Movie & TV Recommendation Thread

Post here if you'd like to have a Movie or TV series recommended to you.

DO NOT post about stuff you enjoy at random; only respond to requests.

Some criteria that could be helpful:

Genre
Time Period
Similarity to personal favorites
Directors / Actors that were involved.

I will go ahead and kick off the thread.

What's your personal favorite George Carlin stand-up DVD? Whenever I hear blips from him I love it, but I've never explored further.

Thanks in advance.

Decent thread idea as it's requesting something that's tailored to what you are looking for.

Can't help you with George Carlin. He is not very well known here at all apart from his role as Rufus in Bill and Ted!

I am looking for 80's medieval/ heroic fantasy films and even post apocalyptic films no matter how cheesy. I know all the usual suspects so don't post Conan The Barbarian etc

Any dark comedy, movie or TV. If it's a big name one, chances are I've seen it.

For example? Would help me to give you a recommendation if I knew what you already enjoyed.

I'd like some suggestions for genuinely scary horror films. I haven't found any yet, but I did enjoy The Exorcist. I have fond memories tied to that one.

Finding a movie scary is completely subjective I've noticed, but my friends and I are compiling a list of movies to watch the week leading up to Halloween - so I'll try to throw a few recs your way:

Rosemary's Baby
Pontypool
Pan's Labyrinth
Let the Right One In
A Tale of Two Sisters
Suspiria
The Baby's Room

Life Is Worth Losing is my favourite. As you can probably tell from the title, it's by far his darkest set.

I second Lee's recommending the Last Supper. Even if the film drags its knuckles a lot in the 2nd act, the opening and closing scenes are a couple of my favourites ever. Also;

Kind Hearts and Coronets
Very Bad Things
In Bruges
Feast (more of a horror-comedy, but never mind)
Bad Santa (gets a bit sentimental towards the end but, again, never mind)
Cecil B Demented
How To Get Ahead In Advertising
Four Lions

...among other I can't think of at the moment.

Watch Jian Gui, aka the Eye.

Thanks for the rec.

Also, thanks for pointing me towards Miller's Crossing a while back.
