American Beauty (1999) http://images.picturesdepot.com/phot...ster-25136.jpg vs. American Psycho (2000) http://www.ifilmdb.com/Video/America...cho_poster.jpg |
american beauty for me.
|
American Psycho
|
Ahhhh **** you man.
Beauty - 1 Psycho - 2 One of the hardest choices I've ever had to make. But American Psycho is the single best book to film adaptation I've ever seen. |
American Beauty 2
American Psycho 2 American Beauty is quite possibly my favourite film of all time, well... it's certainly one of them. |
American Beauty 3
I havent seen American Psycho, but loved American Beauty. So deserves my vote. Sorry if its biased :/ |
You should really abstain since you haven't seen both films, but wudev0r - come on American Beauty!
|
On what level exactly should I compare these two films? Ah yeah, they have a word 'American' in the title. Oh well...American Beauty never did much for me. I always felt it was flat and shallow in its core, covering this by insisting on that flatness as a style and a theme. Hey look, I found a level on which to compare this to American Psycho. They share some themes: shallowness, emptiness, flatness. But, American Psycho evokes all that with such ease that it never feels the movie itself is shallow, quite on the contrary. It has that satirical approach that is served so straightforwardly and coldly that it makes this emptiness of modern man funny and disturbing at the same time. American Beauty is too self-aware and self-serious to achieve more than what's already obvious, although it hides that seriousness behind cynicism. The problem for me is that I see through that and I don't like it. I guess it's pretty obvious where my vote goes: American Psycho, hands down.

I enjoyed American Psycho a lot- some of the scenes were so awesomely creepalicous and funny at the same time that it was hard not to. But American Beauty was just... really really really good. The writing, the acting, the feel blah blah blah. Great.

This thread kind of died, let's try and revive it.
Next battle: Adventureland (2009) http://tapemixblog.files.wordpress.c...l-fullsize.jpg Vs. Juno (2007) http://ibelieveinhype.files.wordpres...oster2-big.jpg |
JUNO!!
I still have to find a solution for my obsession with Ellen Page. Plus, awesome soundtrack. Juno 1 AL 0 |
I vote Adventure Land.
AL 1 Juno 1 Close one, I do like both films. |
This is a really difficult choice...
Urghhhh... ... ... AL 2 Juno 1 *sighs |
Juno. I found Juno good and Adventureland watchable.
Juno 2 Adventureland 2 |
Juno 3
Adventureland 2 Loved them both, but I still preferred Juno. Maybe I should watch Adventureland sometime again. Ellen Page :thumb: |
Adventureland 3
Juno 3 By alot. Adventureland is a pretty decent movie and I really dislike Juno. The way the characters talk gets to me. |
Anybody want to take this over?
School, I can't ****ing handle it. |
adventureland 4
juno 3 adventureland is my favorite coming of age flick. |
Number Nine Dream is now running this.

never seen, but i doubt i would prefer that.

I love Adventureland, my favourite out of them kinda films Superbad, Hangover, Knocked Up etc.
But it doesn't hold a candle to The Graduate. "Are you trying to seduce me Mrs. Robinson?" Such a memorable film, the perfect coming of age film. |
Am I the only one that didn't rate Juno?
|
Adventureland WIN!
NEXT: Monty Python and the Holy Grail http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...EL._SS500_.jpg vs Monty Python's Life Of Brian http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...HL._SS500_.jpg PS* Send me your suggestions for the next battle. |

But, this time... I have to say I laughed a bit harder during Life of Brian. So many memorable lines, like: "Excuse me. Are you the Judean People's Front?" "Fuck off! We're the People's Front of Judea"; or this one especially: "I am not the Messiah!" "I say you are Lord, and I should know. I've followed a few." So funny and so true. Monty Python and the Holy Grail 0 Life Of Brian 1 |
Easy :D
Holy Grail 1 Life of Brian 1 Although they both are great. Still, the Knights of Nii rule. |
I will be completely surprised if Life of Brian wins. It is good, but nowhere near the Holy Grail!
Holy Grail 2 Life of Brian 1 |
The Shrubbery and the coconut horse-sounds guaranty my voting to the Holy Grail. I do love Life of Brian and feel that The Meaning of Life is underrated btw.
Holy Grail 3 Life of Brian 1 |
Holy Grail: WIN!
now time for an 80s Sci-Fi one on one: The Last Starfighter (1984) vs TRON (1982) |
Ooh, tough call! I loved both those movies as a kid. I'm voting Tron though because to this day I find it aesthetically inspirational. I'm pretty excited for the sequel that's coming out soon!
Last Starfighter: 0 Tron: 1 |
