But no, I saw Carrie about 3 years ago, it was on tv one night and I had nothing better to do. Rosemary's Baby I saw more recently, but thats because I have a friend whos really into horror's and made me watch it with her. Because I dont enjoy these sort of movies, I thought they were both utterly crap :/

i kinda go out of my way to avoid them. i do enjoy an occasional thriller / whatever with scary moments. in general my experiences with horror have been lackluster.

I'm still waiting to see a worthwhile horror that I actually enjoy. Not holding breath really..

I'm guessing you've seen some classics like The Shining and perhaps some of the more splattery ones like Evil Dead or Texas Chainsaw Massacre .. And I'm guessing you didn't like them.

If you like more intelligent films with good characters and a gripping plot, something which is sometimes hard to find in horror, consider checking out The Changeling from 1980. :)

I've written about it many times but never actually found anyone on mb who've seen it besides myself. It's a pity because it's brilliant!

^I've seen The Changeling. It's a great film. I really like those kind of haunting stories, lots of these movies from the 70s like The Sentinel, Alice Sweet Alice, Audrey Rose, Don't Look Now etc.

As for this battle, both of these two movies bring more than what the confinements of horror genre usually allow. To me, Carrie is the best De Palma film and Rosemary's Baby is a horror only on the surface. To dismiss a whole genre of film is very silly, cause there are some really good stuff there. I especially love horror films that transcend the genre and Rosemary's Baby is one of those.

Never did enjoy Carrie so much. It was ok I guess, just didn't leave as much of an impression as Rosemary's Baby did.

I never did consider these two horror though. Like there's the atmosphere, but nothing uselessly jumpy à la Scream.

This one was rather brilliant I thought :) Perhaps not a true classic of the genre because it's basically old tricks done once again, but it was done so well that I found it highly enjoyable. The funny bits were funny and the spooky bits were quite spooky I thought.

I also liked the little references and bits of comedy which made the film so very Raimi-ish. Like the evil squeaky napkin!

It was definitely among my favourites of last year (a year which, as it turned out, was actually quite a good year for cinema). It's no classic as you say, and nothing all that clever or anything, but a great watch all the same, nicely lightened up by Raimi's touch here and there. I loved the ending too.

Two great films but gotta go with Carrie here.
