The Wild Bunch for me as well, as far as revisionist Westerns go, it's as gritty and violent as can be permitted by the mores of that time
whereas The Magnificent Seven is just a very good action Western Wild Bunch - 3 Magnificent 7 - 0 |

I'm going to have to go with Magnificent Seven on this one. Not only to even things out a little bit and make things a bit more interesting, but The Magnificent Seven is one of those old school movies where the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. Nobody is carrying around any bad history, it's just 7 gunslinging badasses teaming up to take on a group of bandits. There's some great lip service played to the fact that their lifestyle isn't anything to aspire to, which is pretty big of them considering they could fill me full of 6 holes in less than 2 seconds. Despite being badasses, they're also polite and cheerful to the villagers and it's just the complete antithesis of the grim and gritty protagonists I'm so use to seeing in modern movies.

The comment just helps to keep the thread up near the top of the page, as it hasn't been stuck yet on a sticky.

I'm actually quite pleased that this thread has been revived. I enjoy everyones perspective on what made these films unique to them and how they have effected them in such a way. I find these type of threads similar to Metal Wars, really get people talking and i enjoy them immensely. So far the battles have pitted really good films also which makes it all the more interesting and fun to observe.

As much as I love 'The Magnificent Seven,' I have to go with 'The Wild Bunch.' Was just a classic Western.
