I love when a movie does that. It's like you are wandering around aimlessly, lost in thought.

Saving Private Ryan, on rewatches, I just watch the beginning and end battle, cos the stuff in between is just not very interesting

Saving Private Ryan is a great film with some fantastic action scenes and a very Hollywood storyline to go with it but its not as special as the Thin Red Line, I think that's one of the best 10 war movies ever made, highlighted my the troops moving uphill and an outstanding performance by Nick Nolte.

The Magnificent Seven is one of those great westerns from its time, chocca full of big names and a genuine blockbuster, one of those films that you can see constantly and never get bored of, BUT the Wild Bunch is something very different, probably ranks as one of the best films ever from its period and its Sam Peckinpah at its best along with an outstanding cast. The opening and final action scenes must rank as some of cinema's greatest moments. At the end of the film, Robert Ryan looks at the bodies and the carnage and says "these were men" brilliant just describes that film.

I can't stand westerns, so I'm staying out of this one. Do classic horror movies next!

i agree with Pete Alfred....great pick....although it may be an easy one for me.....The Magnificent Seven is one of my favorite movies in the western genre :).....i'll re-watch The Wild Bunch and make my decision :)

These are two of my favourite Westerns ever, but The Wild Bunch wins it for me. Both movies have excellent action sequences, epic scale, and all-star casts, but The Wild Bunch holds up better than The Magnificent Seven for me. Just as the movie depicts the death of the wild west, it also depicts the death of the artistic restraints that held directors back up until the late 1960's. The film has spectacular cinematography, tastefully graphic violence, and a unique setting among Westerns. The closing and ending sequences are two of the most thrilling, satisfying, and memorable scenes ever.

It might be my favourite film of all time.
