Two musical films, two rock operas or dramas, or whatever you wanna call them. Let's see what music fans think of these two films. Hopefully more people will vote.

Despite being a big film fan and obviously liking music, I have never seen Tommy! I am not a big Who fan so I have always put off watching it.

However I am a big fan of the film of The Wall far more than the album and think it has some superb set pieces, animation and great cinematography but obviously I can't vote in this one.

I have no idea how to vote. I've seen The Wall many times and Tommy twice (but a long time ago). The first time I watched it, I was an impressionable kid so it kind of clouds my judgment and memory of it. And while I can describe why I like The Wall, I can't do the same for Tommy. There's just this awesome vague memory of it, the way I saw it that first time (strangely enough my second viewing a bit later didn't destroy it). I almost don't want to watch it again just to preserve it.

But how should I vote? :confused:

OK, I'll take an irrational route and still vote for Tommy!

for two movies that are very similar....ie both revolve around mental illness, both main characters have chosen isolation rather than dealing with trauma, both films have a very strong message about the dangers of materialism etc etc...these movies are really different

Tommy shows these subjects in an almost silly and hyper psychedelic way.....creative color schemes, silly characters (Elton John in his 72 holed air-cushioned boots), the slime ball doctor played perfectly by Jack Nicholson, and the hilarious yet creepy Keith Moon as the uncle...and who could ever forget the baked beans

whereas The Wall follows a much darker and desperate approach...i especially like the directors concentration of Carl's Jung's theory of "good and evil" sides of personality clashing to take over ones weakened mentality....such as towards the end when the young Pink meets the older Pink in what seems to be a mental hospital and for the first time realizing the he and he alone is the cause of the wall...and thus putting himself on trial...and of course the bleak dark animation

Hmm...this didn't turn out as I expected. Come on people, I can't believe nobody saw The Wall and Tommy. Oh well...

But, look at that, I have another suggestion, from Conan. He wanted to compare Heath Ledger's last two films and performances.

Ooooh, now this is a close one. I do find Old Boy a little overrated personally and I prefer Lady Vengeance in the vengeance trilogy and the problem with Ich is that it is cut in virtually every country in one form or another. I have the 2 disc Dutch version which cost me a little more than I usually pay for DVD's but it's completely uncut status and packaging won me over.

I genuinely can't decide. Old Boy is definitely more intense but I love the black comedy in Ichi (apart from the nipple slicing scene which was a difficult watch).

Just saw Breakfast Club for the first time in the summer and it was such a stereotypically 80s teen movie that it was awesome, haha. Weird Science I saw 1 or 2 years ago and I don't remember liking it as much as the Breakfast Club.
