We literally just did a battle with American Beauty, but I'll vote for it again.

Fight Club 5
American Beauty 5

2 of my favourite films of all time, both similar in their ideas as well. Most films would lose to American Beauty, I adore it... but it's Fight Club.

American Beauty again? And matched against a film with which it has no connection. At least with American Psycho there was a word 'American' in the title. Oh well...

Fight Club 7

Really? 2 middle aged men both in white collar jobs breaking free and finding themselves... I'd say they have a lot in common.

^Yeah on that level I found a connection with American Psycho too (other than the name). They are both about emptiness and alienation. But, in tone, style and emotional resonance, they're nothing alike. I can see more connections between American Psycho and Fight Club than both of these films have with American Beauty.

I'm sure if I go far or deep enough I can find connections between every film, or everywhere. Hell, the whole 20th century art (and 21st apparently) talks about alienation of a modern man and losing of one's identity. It's the underlying theme (conscience or not) that can be found not only in film, but in any art form. Should we compare American Beauty to those. I'm sure we can, but it's pointless, especially for a game like this.

I'm waiting a next battle to be: American Beauty vs Lost Highway

Who says this little game have to have 2 films with anything in common anyway? I think American Beauty and Fight Club have a lot in common, despite the two film makers going about making them in a different way. Sam Mendes and David Fincher have extremely different styles. They both even share the same opinion about materialistic things. In American Beauty, Lester almost spilt wine on the couch and he said "it's just STUFF."

Try and find similarities between Fight Club and Trainspotting, because for me they're total opposites. Fight Club is about being pissed off with the normal life, the white collar life. And in the end, Trainspotting is about embracing it.

Well, I suppose they don't have to have anything in common. But there would be more point if they were similar in style or subject, so that we don't have to go too far in finding some deeply berried themes that we can find in a majority of modern art anyway.

I'll think of something later (although I did send one suggestion).

Yeah I know. People are just not excited anymore it seems.
Well if a couple of names pop up in your mind, just send them through.
