Like that.
I had a similar thing, though I saw the Big Lebowski when I was 9 or so so that might have affected my judgement. And yes, John Turturro was the best part of the whole movie. Or at least up there.

The Dude reminded me of a creepy paedophile I used to know as well... So that's never good.

MAKE THE BAD MAN STOP! MAKE THE BAD MAN STOP!

But no, really. Paedophile. Looks just like him! Same hair and clothes and everything.

I didn't understand why The Dude was such a loved character, because of the guy I knew who looked just like him. But I managed to get past that, it's truly one of the funniest films ever.

if you don't understand why the dude is a loved/lovable character then you didn't get the film.

If you don't read my post properly, you won't understand what I'm saying.

i read your post just fine. if, the whole time while watching, you didn't get why the dude is a lovable character, you did not get the film.

and means you clearly missed one of the most obvious lovable-character characterizations in all of film, which would make you pretty thick. which doesn't surprise me.

Very insightful post there:

I didn't think he was a loveable character because he reminded me of the local paedophile, I admit I didn't get the whole thing the first time I watched it, it's a film that really stuck in my head as I kept remembering bits from it, and it's a genuinely funny film.

I really like the Dude (cause that's not obvious). He didn't seem like a pedophile to me. At least not as much as this guy:

that's like saying you don't understand why the tramp is a lovable character because he reminds you of a schizophrenic hobo you once saw. if all you could think about when you saw the dude was some pederast you know, that's your issue.

Jeff Bridges doesn't look like a paedophile at all, it just so happens someone round here had a beard, long hair, and wore scruffy clothing like 'The Dude'.

You know when you see someone or something and it just reminds you of something else? That's what happened. I couldn't relate to the character AT FIRST because he reminded me so much of somebody else.

Just like when I had a blonde big boobed loudish girlfriend, after we split up, I met someone totally similar. It put me off..

Yeah, because he looked so vividly like somebody else, that's an issue? I don't even know why you're trying to be a dick, or does it just come naturally to you? There are such things as a first impression. If I was still saying I didn't like the film because of an unusual first impression, then by all means - call me out on it. But I'm not saying that. The Big Lebowski is an extremely weird film, that's why it's so widely loved. But some people might not 'get' it at first. Like I said, it's one that resonated with me and that made it all the better. The next day sat in school and just randomly laughing at a scene or something...
