I'm not gonna sue you, but they seem like very similar styles of comedy so I would have guessed a person who loved Team America would enjoy South Park...

But south park had:

Uncle fucker
Kyle's mom's a bitch
The scene with cartman and mr. Garrison(posted earlier)
Fucking satan and saddam
Big floppy donkey dick
The fucking mole
Barbara Streisand

Almost every scene was class

Yeah, my bad. I think it was actually something I picked up in one of their interviews. It's not something I actually remember. I was still in middle school...

I'm definitely not disputing the greatness of the South Park movie, it's just I think Team America was even better. :)

Operation Human Shield was funny as hell, the dying giraffe sound was okay, not a favourite scene by any means though.

I definitely enjoyed Team America, but I always loved South Park, ah well, to each his own!

debaserr 08-01-2010 05:33 PM

i think south park needs to die. the majority of the episodes have sucked the past 3 seasons. (season 11 being the last good one).

I am not a big fan of animation on the whole really. I like Studio Ghibli and a couple of Animes as well as Pixar but The Simpsons, Family Guy etc just doesn't grab me at all.

Comedy animation rarely floats my boat as I feel that it's easy to be outrageous when it's essentially drawings and much harder to do with live actors but I know I am in the minority regarding this issue.

Most definitely. I'd love to see Matt and Trey move their talents along to a new project. It's way overdue.

Still, you can't complain about South Park seasons 1-11. Almost every episode is classic...

i agree, i dunno what happened to them. they are under contract through the rest of this season and the next.

storymilo 08-02-2010 02:31 PM

This is a brilliant idea. And I'm not gonna vote cause I haven't seen Team America, but South Park is really awesome...

NumberNineDream 08-02-2010 04:41 PM

So it seems:
South Park 7
Team America 3

SP WINS!

As James is on Holiday, I'll be filling in for the next 3 days - New Battle:

GO!

2. another horror battle in the 3rd match of the thread.

NumberNineDream 08-02-2010 06:11 PM

^ You call South Park Horror? I know there was an appearance of Satan, but C'mon.

debaserr 08-02-2010 06:14 PM

he means 2 of the first 3 battles are horror films.

NumberNineDream 08-02-2010 06:23 PM

Either vote or don't. We just get submissions and put it in chronologically... You can submit all you want. As for now, those are the ones we got.

debaserr 08-02-2010 06:25 PM

i won't be voting on this one as i haven't seen either film. ;)

NumberNineDream 08-02-2010 06:26 PM

That's better. Now back to the war:

I vote Rosemary's Baby. A definite classic, with one of the best dream sequences in Cinema History.

Rosemary's Baby - 1
Carrie - 0

bob. 08-02-2010 06:59 PM

Carrie is a great movie....and i quote it often "They're all gonna laugh at you"....but much like The Shinning.....Rosemary's Baby is so much more than a horror flick.....stellar direction and acting.....and the backround story with Mia Farrow, Frank Sinatra and Robert Evans.....just better in almost all aspects

Rosemary's Baby 2
Carrie 0

Janszoon 08-02-2010 08:33 PM

This is kind of tough because I'm fairly neutral about both movies. I guess I enjoyed Carrie somewhat more though.

Rosemary's Baby 2
Carrie 1

Neither movie is particularly scary but I'd say Carrie is the less annoying of the two.

I was lying. I think horror is the Tiger Beat of the film world.

 thanks for this.

Another vote for Carrie. (I'm not quite sure what the tally is now but whatever)

While I generally hate horror movies, I hated this one too. Still enjoyed it much more than Rosemary's Baby though. It was pretty melodramatic and I felt really sorry for Carrie the entire time, but at least it captivated me slightly more than the latter :/

did you watch them for the purpose of this thread? it seems fresh on your mind.

glastonelle 08-03-2010 01:36 AM

^ Sounds that way, doesnt it... :/

But no, I saw Carrie about 3 years ago, it was on tv one night and I had nothing better to do. Rosemary's Baby I saw more recently, but thats because I have a friend whos really into horror's and made me watch it with her. Because I dont enjoy these sort of movies, I thought they were both utterly crap :/

debaserr 08-03-2010 01:39 AM

i kinda go out of my way to avoid them. i do enjoy an occasional thriller / whatever with scary moments. in general my experiences with horror have been lackluster.

I'm still waiting to see a worthwhile horror that I actually enjoy. Not holding breath really..

I'm guessing you've seen some classics like The Shining and perhaps some of the more splattery ones like Evil Dead or Texas Chainsaw Massacre .. And I'm guessing you didn't like them.

If you like more intelligent films with good characters and a gripping plot, something which is sometimes hard to find in horror, consider checking out The Changeling from 1980. :)

I've written about it many times but never actually found anyone on mb who've seen it besides myself. It's a pity because it's brilliant!

dankrsta 08-03-2010 03:13 AM

^I've seen The Changeling. It's a great film. I really like those kind of haunting stories, lots of these movies from the 70s like The Sentinel, Alice Sweet Alice, Audrey Rose, Don't Look Now etc.

As for this battle, both of these two movies bring more than what the confinements of horror genre usually allow. To me, Carrie is the best De Palma film and Rosemary's Baby is a horror only on the surface. To dismiss a whole genre of film is very silly, cause there are some really good stuff there. I especially love horror films that transcend the genre and Rosemary's Baby is one of those.

Rosemary's Baby 3
Carrie 1

The Descent
The Mist
Martyrs
Dawn Of the Dead (remake)
Rec
Let the Right One In
Midnight Meat Train
Severence
Dog Soldiers
Drag Me To Hell

^ 10 really fun horror movies from the last 10 years you might wanna look out for if you haven't seen any already. If you haven't, some of them might change your mind, some not.

And...

Rosemary's Baby - 4
Carrie - 1

Never did enjoy Carrie so much. It was ok I guess, just didn't leave as much of an impression as Rosemary's Baby did.

NumberNineDream 08-03-2010 05:16 AM

We forgot to add Glastonnelle's vote, so it's:

Rosemary's Baby - 4
Carrie - 2

I never did consider these two horror though. Like there's the atmosphere, but nothing uselessly jumpy à la Scream.

This one was rather brilliant I thought :) Perhaps not a true classic of the genre because it's basically old tricks done once again, but it was done so well that I found it highly enjoyable. The funny bits were funny and the spooky bits were quite spooky I thought.

I also liked the little references and bits of comedy which made the film so very Raimi-ish. Like the evil squeaky napkin!

It was definitely among my favourites of last year (a year which, as it turned out, was actually quite a good year for cinema). It's no classic as you say, and nothing all that clever or anything, but a great watch all the same, nicely lightened up by Raimi's touch here and there. I loved the ending too.

Unknown Soldier 08-03-2010 08:33 AM

Two great films but gotta go with Carrie here.

Rosemary`s Baby 4
Carrie 3
