Chastised :( Apologies.

NumberNineDream 09-17-2010 07:15 PM

Well I'm gonna allow it this time. Consider this a warning.

PEOPLE! BATTLE THE DEAD!

Dawn of the Dead Original 0
Dawn of the Dead Remake 1

I'll go for remake, I could take it more seriously. I'm not much of a horror person but these I dont particularly mind. I preferred Shaun of the Dead to both of them though... :p:

DoctorSoft 09-17-2010 10:54 PM

It's so, so ridiculously close but I'm gonna have to give it to the remake. I think it's a bit scarier.

Dawn of the Dead Original 0
Dawn of the Dead Remake 2

Both are two of my favourite horror movies btw, even though I haven't seen alot.

Thrice 09-17-2010 11:31 PM

The original Day of the Dead was filmed in my town, which led me to watch the old Dawn movie shortly after. I like the oldies.

OLD-1
NEW-2

bob. 09-18-2010 09:00 AM

i love both movies....i honestly thought i would hate the remake....i even dragged myself to see it opening day just to have lots of fuel to destroy it....but it was really good....but it was missing something that the original had....put that on top off the better gore effects and the great Goblin soundtrack.....

Original 2
remake 2

IT'S A TIE!!

Next:

Religulous (2008)
vs
Jesus Camp (2006)

debaserr 09-18-2010 07:51 PM

^ neither were that great but I found jesus camp more interesting.

religulous 0
jesus camp 1

religulous 0
jesus camp 2

I really just didn't like Religulous all that much.

Next Battle:

Full Metal Jacket (1987)

vs

Platoon (1986)

http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...f699b110.L.jpg

Janszoon 09-19-2010 04:30 PM

Tough call. I think the bootcamp segment of Full Metal Jacket is better than anything found in Platoon, but overall I think Platoon is the better movie so...

Full Metal Jacket: 0
Platoon: 1

NumberNineDream 09-19-2010 04:33 PM

Platoon was one of those movies that just escaped my mind the second it ended. It just didn't leave me with anything. I did love FMJ, fully and immensely, and I still remember every part of it.

Full Metal Jacket: 1
Platoon: 1

debaserr 09-19-2010 05:45 PM

i love FMJ, yet haven't seen platoon. should i?

Janszoon 09-19-2010 05:47 PM

Yes.

jackhammer 09-19-2010 06:00 PM

The films seem to change every few hours :(

Anyhow I am not a big fan of war films but I have seen Platoon more times than Full Metal Jacket and although Platoon is a little melodramatic and overrated I will give the nod to it.

Full Metal Jacket's drill sergeant middle section is a much better piece of filming than Platoon as a whole, but everything after that just seems like an anti climax to me.

Better extras on the Platoon DVD too;)

Full Metal Jacket 1
Platoon 2

Great minds think alike!

Violent & Funky 09-19-2010 09:29 PM

Ah, everybody says that about FMJ. Of course, it's also one of the most easily quoted movies I've ever seen, especially for a non-comedy...

bob. 09-20-2010 10:57 AM

i really love both of these movies....and i think they both attempt to break into the core of what war can do to the human condition....but honestly one scene breaks the tie for me....(from Full Metal Jacket) the scene where Joker is being yelled at for his attempts to express the duel nature of man....the entire scene is basically shot close up to the actors faces....but the entire time a giant pit full of lye covered corpses can be scene in the backround...

Full Metal Jacket 2
Platoon 2

dankrsta 09-20-2010 12:27 PM

The way I see it, this is one of the lesser Kubrick films vs one of the better Stone films. And Kubrick still takes it, although by a hair this time. I like both of these films though.

Full Metal Jacket 3
Platoon 2

Nine Black Poppies 09-20-2010 01:38 PM

^ That, pretty much.

FMJ 4
Platoon 2

NumberNineDream 09-20-2010 07:23 PM

FMJ: WIN!

River's Edge
vs
Blue Velvet

GO!

bob. 09-21-2010 10:04 AM

Dennis Hoppers best films....and characters...but seeing as Frank Booth is...in my opinion....the greatest movie villain (which i know is saying a lot)....even though i find the character Feck to be great and River's Edge Has Crispin Glover....Frank Booth and Candy Colored Clown....takes the prize

River's Edge - 0
Blue Velvet - 1

dankrsta 09-21-2010 11:23 AM

Here's one unpopular opinion - of all the actors in River's Edge the most genuine seemed to me Keanu Reeves. Good film. But Blue Velvet is great.

River's Edge - 0
Blue Velvet - 2

NumberNineDream 09-21-2010 09:56 PM

Blue Velvet: WIN!

Suburbia
vs
SLC Punk

Violent & Funky 09-21-2010 10:12 PM

Holy **** I've actually seen SLC Punk but not the other one so I can't vote...

duga 09-22-2010 09:44 AM

SLC Punk is a great movie, though. I had never heard of it but it was on TV really late at night years ago. It was one of those movies where I thought I'd probably turn it off and go to bed after 15 minutes of it, but I ended up watching the whole thing.

But I've never seen Suburbia, either, so I can't vote.

ThePhanastasio 09-22-2010 09:50 AM

Suburbia - 0
SLC Punk - 1

Although Suburbia was quite good. SLC Punk kind of shaped my high school self in a lot of ways, so it's just got sentimental value.

bob. 09-22-2010 12:20 PM

Suburbia - 1
SLC Punk - 1

exactly the same but for Suburbia.....we must have watched it daily for months

both are great movies....i just find Suburbia to be more fun to watch

NumberNineDream 09-22-2010 04:34 PM

Another tie, it seems.

The Outsiders
vs
Rumble Fish

The Battle begins!

Ps. If anyone has any suggestions, please send in.

bob. 09-22-2010 04:37 PM

The Outsiders 1
Rumble Fish 0

one of my all time favorite movies

dankrsta 09-22-2010 04:54 PM

^I bet this is your suggestion

Mmm...Matt Dillon...This is tough, I like both of these films. Since I can't decide, I'll go with a somewhat shallow reason. Mickey Rourke, in the 80s, always prevails :)

The Outsiders 1
Rumble Fish 1

DoctorSoft 09-22-2010 05:05 PM

The Outsiders 2

Liked Rumble Fish but I didn't love it like I did The Outsiders.

Rumble Fish WINS!

Gattaca (1997)

vs

A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)

I'm gonna start the voting, as Gattaca is one of my favourite films of all time.

Gattaca 1
A.I 0

DoctorSoft 09-23-2010 11:53 PM

Gattaca 2

A.I. 0

Gattaca was really, really good, and I thought AI was just ok.

dankrsta 09-24-2010 09:23 AM

Gattaca is great, although I liked A.I. quite a bit. I wasn't overly critical of it like some people. I guess I have a soft spot for Spielberg and his sentimentality.

Gattaca 3
A.I 0

Violent & Funky 09-24-2010 09:59 AM

I haven't seen A.I. but I really liked GATTACA.

Did anyone else notice Ethan Hawke smokes in GATTACA? How absurd is the idea for his character to smoke when he has so many physical limitations to overcome?
