Now? Family Guy jumped the shark years ago. Possibly even when it came back. It's been forever since I've seen one of the original episodes but I never remember it being as funny as before it got cancelled.

Absolutely true. I wrote an article (not here) asking the question: when a show gets cancelled then reprieved, do you generally see it as the writers not really bothering any more? They've been saved from the axe and know they won't likely be in trouble for a while more so why bother?
Family Guy is typical of this attitude. They think they can just scoop up whatever Seth does in the toilet, spread it on the screen and everyone will think it's funny. It's not. I agree that there hasn't been a really funny FG episode in seasons now. Same with the Simpsons. And the last episode (ever?) of Futurama was an insult to the fans, just awful. But getting back on topic: yeah Family Guy should be put out of its misery. A classic case of not knowing when to quit, when just one more beach house is needed or one more classic car for McFarlane. And don't even get me started on American Dad!
