Default New WWE game.

I'm a big fan of WWE and i always look forward to the SvR games. THQ hasn't released a whole lot of info on the game, but the big thing with this one seems to be a new "create an arena" feature. I can't wait to see some of the newer guys in a game, like Sheamus and the Hart Dynasty guys.
There's also word of a new pc WWE game, I wonder how that's gonna turn out.
The official announcement on both games will come at E3 later this month.

I haven't kept up with any wrestling games after WWF No Mercy for the N64, that game is kickass though, unfortunately I can't find the memory card required to save any of my current progress so i can't unlock new stuff.

And yes there actually were N64 games that required memory cards, wtf.

I always hear that the physics haven't been updated enough to warrant all the sequels, or that THQ don't take enough time to develop every game fully because they just dish them out every year. That seems to be a trend with sports games.

They need to make another "Legends" game and do it right, I don't care about these new jabronis. Give me Bret Hart, The Hulkster and Andre.

I don't like watching the shows, but the games are always really fun.
Boo Boo has a point, since they don't take their time and just release a game annually, it just comes out to be the same game with a couple of new features and a updated roster, in which case it shouldn't be a new game, but just an update. It's basically the same for the whole bunch, like Madden, FIFA, and NBA.

Its true that these franchises don't exactly advance each game from year to year so much but rather just update.

However using FIFA and Prto Evo as an example, these slight alterations can also be important. Pro Evo had been the best football game out there for a long, long time and although FIFA didnt change much from year to year, within two years (the release of '09 and '10 i think) they managed to be widely recognised as being back on top again.

Wrestling games havent been the same since the N64. Those games were great games, whether you like wrestling or not. Just like i used to enjoy NHL games but have no interest in hockey at all. Now, its true, the games dont change much but if you compare them a few years apart rather than year on year, you will notice that there has been progress.

Yeah, I'm one of the people who has FIFA 01-10. I like the progress, but I found that there was updated graphics, new camera feature, new roster, new game mode. I still go back and play older versions, just for fun.

I used to be a hardcore wrestling fan, I didn't really grow out of it so much as became increasingly disappointed with the decline in quality especially when it came to the WWE. I think pro wrestling hit a peak in the mid late 90s and couldn't go anywhere but down. I think WWE really started slipping after the merge with WCW and ECW, which should have been the greated wrestling event ever but instead it lead to many of my favorite WCW and ECW wrestlers being wasted and reduced to jobbers because Vince McMahon had some kind of ridiculous grudge against his former competition.

Then the wrestling became more mundane and conservative, and they started focusing too much on the storyline BS and it's now pretty common for the promo speechs to last way longer than the actual matches. Also wrestling now has become way too Americanized, not enough diversity in the rosters. Most of the best wrestlers are Canadian, Mexican, Japanese, etc. Because those countries take the atheletic aspects of wrestling much more seriously.

Anyway, my main problem with sports games is that as they become more realistic and more loyal to the sports, they have less things to attract gamers who aren't sports fans. The great thing about older sports games like NBA Jam and the NES sports games is that they didn't require a serious in depth knowledge of the sport. When I played Madden NFL 2002 I had to look up all this stuff about football to even get an idea of what I was supposed to do because these kinda games really are for people who follow the sport, I started to enjoy the game more as I began to understand the sport better.

Another great wrestling game is Saturday Night Slammasters for the SNES. Do give that one a spin.

I stopped watching after it got really dramatic. I mean here is Kane, he looks like a pretty pissed off guy, but wait, he has a girlfriend, oh they got married, and oh something else happened, I really can't remember. And then the whole business with Eddie, Chavo, and Rey. It's like a drama TV show. 30 minutes of drama, and 30 minutes of improv wrestling.

That South Park episode really cracked me up.

I completely understand and basically agree with what you said about WWE. I watch it when it's on, but I wish it was like the old days (for me that mean late 90s, early 2000s, although for most people it's long before that.) with Steve Austin and Rikishi and Shane and Undertaker was still the "American Badass".

If you wanna see something that's generally a good product, check out TNA. It's the closest thing we're gonna get the WCW days and isn't a bunch of bs like WWE is now. They got a lotta good wrestlers, too; Angle, Kevin Nash, RVD (the champ), Sting, Jeff Hardy, Team 3-D (better known as The Dudleys).

Back to the topic... I know what you mean about having to know the sport to be able to play the game well. Madden's a great example, I find myself picking random plays and pushing random buttons more than actual strategy because honestly, I don't know that much about football. I think with the WWE games it's a bit different though, I would think someone with limited understanding of the "sport" could still learn how to play most of the games fairly quickly.
