The point I'm trying to make is that theres very little thats "funny" about much of what they say. Now maybe thats because once upon a time it was "edgy" but half the time, since American Culture has changed so much, I think "yeah everyone knows that." Trust me, its not like I'm laughing at home and then posting snark here. I don't mind telling you when I like mainstream crap. I've laughed at a lot of Dane Cook stuff in my time, but these two are easily the biggest "I'm an urban elitist who shops at cupcake stores and rides a fixed-gear bike" oriented comics. They aren't laughing at what they say, their laughing because "lolz religion is stupid and religious people is the ra-tard." Its dumb. I like Bill Mahr anytime he's not talking about religion. I'm not religius in the slightest but I just don't understand that hatred toward the religious.

You lost me at the part about laughing at Dane Cook.
It's insanely wrong to say that Hicks and Carlin are only well liked because people agree with what they say, but if you must know, one of the things that really makes comedy work for me is a hint of truth, so I'm more likely to laugh at something I agree with than at something I don't agree with at all. Hicks and Carlin cover a lot more things than religion, but they were ranting about that subject at a time when it wasn't considered quite as acceptable for stand up comedy. If you can't understand why people have a bone to pick with religion then I just don't know what to say. People who say religion should never be discussed are just trying to be contrarian, just because there's a nationwide consensus about it doesn't make it irrelevant. |

You're a fiery young lad, Boobs. And you're looking for someone who carries the same banner. The idea that I lost you at laughing at Dane Cook proves my point. I don't understand why so many people don't realize when you don't take risks, and you don't take position people disagree with, no one trusts the rest of your opinions. If you're nailing every talking point, you're suspect. Hicks and Carlin also talk about drugs, rock n' roll, and at one point - rape. To cite a Carlin like "Rape can be funny, no really it can, think about Elmer Fudd raping Porkey Pig" Thats funny? Where the truth in that? Its another full-frontal assault on the left-leaning language police, and of all the things it is, the least of which is "funny." And cut the bull**** with the spin. I never said religion shouldn't be discussed, I said I can't imagine why folks like you want to - unprovoked - attack religious people because of 4 idiot televangelists.

Thats fair, you're list isn't bad though George Lopez being first scares me. Since the title is "Greatest" though, would you say you have a top 2?

and the plot thickens... That should be intersting based on some of the commentary we've seen so far.

You need to realise that Carlin's stance isn't as simplistic as you think.
He's actually ranted a lot about how we are messing the planet up, all he's arguing is that we can't really destroy it. Quote:
You're seriously telling me Hicks and Carlin didn't take risks with their statements? They pissed people off all the damn time, especially Hicks who did his early shows in the south. They weren't just partial to any one side, they attacked everyone and everything. Not to mention you contradict your own statement by saying some of their statements offend you. You do this all the time and it always makes your arguments incredibly incoherent. And I really hate your condescending attitude, it's one reason I hate arguing with you. There's more to religious issues than f*cking televangelists. But FYI these measily televangelists like Robertson, Falwell and Roberts are worth millions of dollars and own their own private universities with several thousand students enrolled which scares the sh*t out of me. Alright, if I continue to argue with you, then I keep making this thread about the people I maintain are hacks. If you want to continue this brawl, I'm happy too, though if you keep proving my point I don't know what else I'd have to say.
To change subjects, here's one of the better clips I've seen from one of the best new comics I've seen Plea Bargin - Eugene Mirman - Plea Bargain | Eugene Mirman | Jokes.com Specificity - http://comedians.jokes.com/eugene-mi...---specificity Heres one for ya BooBoo - http://comedians.jokes.com/eugene-mi...me-as-your-god
