I watched the first season and was less than impressed with it. I found the acting to be static, the characters unlikable (except Jason), and liberal use of nudity. I plowed my way through the series hoping that it would get better but it just never really did anything for me. I also heard that HBO passed over turning the graphic novel Preacher into a TV series and that just pissed me off. I mean Preacher is set in the South, has just as much violence and full frontal nudity, and even has a ****ing vampire in it! I mean I can see the appeal of the show, but I really think True Blood is below the HBO standards.

I quite like this show. Yes, admittedly the acting is pretty bad. When I first started watching it I remember thinking as much...but I kept watching anyway and now I am hooked. I suppose what I find appealing about it is the addition of shapeshifters, werewolves, and other beings to the mix. The main thing I really hate about it is the relationship between Sookie and Bill...I cringe everytime I watch them interact with each other. It's terrible. And I know you're thinking "Umm...that's the main basis for the show idiot." Maybe. But there is enough extra there to keep me interested. Jason is pretty funny, my favorite line from season two was when he said "It's like if a tree falls in the woods it's still a tree, ain't it?". Idiot. And Alexander Skarsgard is one hell of a vampire.

It's everything (or at least some of the things) happening around them that make the show interesting. I stand by that it's a dumb show, but still watchable.

After watching the first episode of Kindred: The Embraced which is heavily influenced on the White Wolf Role-Playing game Vampire: The Masquerade I can honestly say that True Blood is probably the best Vampire show on TV right now. Now for me to admit this just goes to show how fucking awful Kindred: The Embraced was and why it only lasted 8 episodes. So congratulations True Blood for winning the Gold in the poo poo Olympics.
I think the only Vampire based show that I actually enjoyed was Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. |

Neither one of you will get any argument from me there. Buffy was definitely the best vampire show as far as storyline, and Angel was a close second. I just finished watching them both all the way through in fact. Love them.

I never liked Buffy. I don't like the vampire fad either. But I tend to enjoy most of what HBO comes up with. I got hooked. They have the craziest cliffhangers at the end of the episodes I can't help but come back for more.
