Same here. After the third viewing you almost forget the actual look of the film (which IS superb) and concentrate solely on the film and you realise how boring the film is apart from the Marv section.

Agree on The Searchers too. A good film SHOULD date well and it doesn't. Apart from that it's boring, predictable and also stars John Wayne. Give me Shane any day - far more depth of character.

For the finale:

Yep. We already have our own pissed/drugged up anti hero slacker film in Withnail & I that is far more poignant, honest, realistic and downright funny than a film that has Jeff Bridges saying 'dude' every five minutes.

There are some standout scenes (Bowling) and lines from John Goodman but I have seen it twice and have no desire to watch it again. If I want to watch a film about stoner 'dudes', give me Cheech & Chong every time.

I can't think of a film that has more universal appeal than this one. You're spot on about it being an anti-hero film, but it's one with a conscience and hilarious at that. I can understand not liking it but if you really need someone to explain it to you, you might be taking films far too seriously.

And really, you'd rather watch Cheech and Chong? I'd rather have a prostate examination than endure that crap.

I don't hate it, I didn't think it was bad. I just thought it was nothing out of the ordinary and not particularly well made. The only redeeming thing that kept me watching was Cybill Shepherd who was absolutely beautiful in this, something I've never thought of her before.
Ha, I know I'm bringing back an old post but I fully agree with this. The filmwork was beautiful though, I used to love to watch this on pills because of all the shots of the lights at night. I thought the storyline was rather boring. Cybil Shepherd really did look flawless though.

One film I don't understand why people like so much is Requiem for A Dream. Yeah I know it's totally gripping and ****, but it's really not something I would watch again, I think it's ****ing terrifying.

I also dislike A Clockwork Orange quite a bit, but I was pretty young when I saw it, and there was too much tits in it for my taste.

I don't need anyone to explain it to me even though this is the thread for it and I don't think I take films too seriously (well not always) if I like cheesy B movies and Cheech and Chong do I?

It's one of those sacred cows that EVERYONE is supposed to love but guess what? I don't.

Well it sure doesn't sound like you expect someone to explain it to you then, does it?

Personally I found Withnail & I dull and uninteresting, so I'm sure there's some divergence of taste.

Yah see that's the same for me with Lebowski but I don't mind one iota somebody not enjoying a film I do. BTW you did explain it to me but it wasn't enough to make me want to watch it again Raising Arizona by the Coens is another matter entirely. That is as close to classic slapstick than most modern films have got to.

You people are just terrible, terrible people and I sincerely hope you look at yourselves in the mirror tonight and tell yourselves the following:

"just because I hate my mother, doesn't mean I need to take it out on the world."

Smoke a doob and cool out, will ya? You didn't like the Dark Knight? What sort of snarked-up bull**** is that? The only way that would be more elitist is if you were smoking a Newport while you typed it.
