How is it not well made? It's exceptionally well acted, written and directed. the cinematography and the Bernard Herrmann score is fantastic. One of my top 10 movies ever. Nothing out of the ordinary? There was nothing like it when it came out. And oddly enough, Cybill Shepherd was my least favorite thing about the movie Last edited by boo boo; 04-07-2010 at 06:09 PM. |

I can see how it might be slow, but I consider it a classic just because of the end.
I love the image of all these old powerful men getting excited about a nuclear holocaust because if they had to live in a cave, each man would get several attractive women to help repopulate the Earth. Hilarious and sad all at the same time.

Obvious pick, but yeah. What's so special about it, what makes it so much better than other "classic" Westerns? The Wild Bunch, The Magnificent Seven, Ride The High Country, even other John Wayne films like True Grit and The Cowboys are all far superior to it in my opinion. Maybe it's the fact that it predated all of those films, but even Bridge On The River Kwai, which came out a year later absolutely blows it away. Edit: And the portrayal of Native Americans in this film is laughably bad, but everyone knows that.
