No humour about it. Genre's are loose terms and are best kept that way. However, a lot of people here insist on nit-picking movies and music and discussions about a love for a certain artist/director/movie etc soon descend into people trying to prove that their definition of a genre is more accurate. It's just boring, unoriginal and ends any interesting comments as to why people actually like the topic at hand.

You're right. But I still think No Country For Old Men is the Coen's worst sci-fi movie.

I just made a comment about it being a western and all of a sudden, there was a divide. Don't blame me. *hides*

Nah, it's one of only three Coen brothers' movies I don't like and the other two were sword and sandals epics.

Besides, I noticed that what Wikipedia said contained the words primarily and most indicating that that time period wasn't all inclusive. Besides, that's really nitpicking when NCFOM contains the themes most commonly found in westerns. And it is an awesome movie.

Here's how I'd rate the one's I've seen:

The brilliant:
Fargo
The Big Lebowski
Miller's crossing
Blood Simple

The so-so:
A serious man
The man who wasn't there
Barton Fink
No country for old men

The terrible:
Raising Arizona

By the looks of it, the rest aren't really worth my time.

Yes, exactly. It ends with a sentence that doesn't even remotely describe No Country For Old Men.

I would say the themes are not most commonly found in westerns. That's my point.

Is it hard to accept that No Country has elements of both western and film noir?

I never said it was just a western as it shouldn't be shoehorned into that category alone but it certainly has western elements and like I said, Peckinpah is one of the film's major influences.
