Default Predators

Anyone else excited about this reboot/sequel to the Predator franchise? At first glance it seems like a bad idea, but the people involved (Robert Rodriguez, Adrien Brody, Laurence Fishburne) really hint at a lot of potential IMHO. Plus the trailer is pretty good:

Man, Hollywood can't get enough of these reboots eh. That trailer looks pretty good though, and I guess if I ever get tempted back into the cinema anytime soon it'll be to watch that. Talking of franchise reboots (and digressing a little), judging by the trailers the new version of Nightmare On Elm Street looks fairly decent too.

Yeah, it's kind of depressing when you consider how many writers out there with great original ideas are not getting work because the executives want to rehash every single thing ever made. In this particular case though the result really does look pretty good to me.

Haven't seen the trailer for the new Nightmare On Elm Street yet but have to admit I'm suspect.

reboots wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that it's pretty indicative that the well of creativity in Hollywood is running dry.

maybe we should be teaching kids how to use their imaginations again instead of just hopping them up with ritalin.

And so you should be. As far as I can remember at the moment, the only remakes I've ever seen which I prefer to their originals are the Thing, Ocean's 11 and Escape From Precinct 13. I'll end up seeing both Nightmare and Predators for sure, but I won't expect to be blown away or anything.

I don't think it's that creativity in Hollywood has run dry, I think it's more that the powers that be have become overly cautious about taking risks with unknown "product". The irony of course is that this cautiousness is probably hurting their bottom line more than helping it.

Well, to be fair Predators isn't a remake, it's sequel. It's only a reboot in the sense that they breaking off from the whole Aliens vs. Predator thing.

You are definitely right about remakes as a rule though. I agree that The Thing is an exception. As is, in my opinion, The Fly.

I'm anticipating this to just be a watchable action movie.

If there was anyone else doing it besides Robert Rodriguez, I am not sure it would be that great. I am really really hoping that he pulls this off. I am looking forward to it!
