Does anyone own an ebook reader?

I've been thinking about picking one up, and thought I'd ask around and hopefully hear some honest opinions from honest folk.

Looking at the Sony PRS-300. It's an inexpensive no-frills eInk reader that supports most of the major formats.

I read a lot, but as an American living overseas, English books can be hard (and expensive) to come by. But I can find just about anything electronically, so this would come in handy.

Anyway, if you have one, do drop a note :D

In your situation I'd suggest grabbing one. If you were here, or somewhere that had readily available books around then I'd prompt you not to purchase one but from my experience, whenever American's come home from europe, especially eastern, then look like walking libraries.

well I keep hearing they aren't worth it, but no one whos said that is in your shoes. i think you're living a unique experience on these forums.

Kindle would at least have a world wide presence to get books from.

i considered the kindle, but dismissed it pretty early on. it's large, expensive, and packed with features i don't need. in trade, you give Amazon full-time access to your files, and get a very limited choice when it comes to what filetypes you can load on to it...

FWIW i got the Sony PRS-300. i couldn't be more pleased!

screen is extremely sharp and easy to read. power consumption is virtually nil. formatting is clean. it's easy to load and easy to use.

so far i've read just one book on it, but i'm fetching and formatting lots more. i have an hour commute to work and home on the tram, so i have plenty of time to read. looking forward to catching up on my favorite authors!
