Edit: I won't be discussing any of the big name series like Mario, Sonic, etc. I feel like everyone knows about them. I want to showcase some of the less popular games you may or may not remember.
I'm gonna do a sort of mini series highlighting some of my favorite games from my childhood and each of the early systems up to about the super nintendo/genesis generation. Feel free to contribute some of yours as well. I'd say by age 3-5 I discovered my love for video games. Here are some of the games that I remember most, and sucked at big time. Sega Master System Montezuma's Revenge - this game was so freakin hard. I don't think I ever beat level one as a child. This was kind of like Metroid without the shooting. Run back and fourth finding keys to unlock areas and advance through the levels. Alien Syndrome - I don't remember how far I got but this game kept me busy for hours. It's one of the better shooting games for the system that I can remember, and at the time the graphics were just amazing. Penguin Land - Ahh, my first puzzle game along with Alex Kidd in High Tech World. Fun childish music, and difficult puzzles + some precision mechanical ability required. Good times. Get the egg to the bottom without breaking it. Watch out for the polar bears! California Games - I played 2 of the games, Hacky Sack and BMX. The rest I found boring and I sucked at. Surfing was okay. I spent the most time on the BMX track, I remember being pretty amazing at it, but who knows, it was 23 years ago.
