The P.I.F Book Club
THE P.I.F. BOOK CLUB P.I.F.= PASS IT FORWARD I'm donating a brand new copy of 'Touching From A Distance' the biography of Ian Curtis & Joy Division written by Ian's wife Deborah Curtis, to be P.I.F'd between members of Music Banter with no less than 500 posts. I'll post the book free of charge to the first person to reply to this thread and pm me with a forwarding address (Uni/works or PO Box etc. will do for those not wanting to disclose their home address). Anyone else wanting to read this book should post an interest and I'll add them to a waiting list edited in this post. The last person to read the book then P.I.F.'s it on (at their expense) to the next in line after signing their username on the inside cover. The book eventually returns to me when it becomes obvious that the list has run it's course. Anyone else wishing to PIF a book can start their own PIF list in this thread. OK, where in the world is this going first... http://media.buch.de/img-adb/1487083...a_distance.jpg Piffing Rules. 1. First come, first served. 2. No breaking the sequence...keep the randomness. 3. Anyone wishing to remove their name from the list must notify me via PM. 4. Piffer pays for postage. 'Touching From A Distance' PIF LIST LoathsomePete...done Jackhammer...done nonsubmissivewife...done kayleigh...reading Duga... |
I'll take it and I'm totally down for this idea, I've got oodles of books that I would like to see passed on.

This is a brilliant idea. :thumb:
I'd have to reacquaint myself with Joy Division first, it's been awhile. |
god damn...i think i better get posting just to participate in this.
excellent idea...wish i thought of it! |
Cheers mate, I've been trying to find something on post-punk in the stores around here, but they seem determined to only sell books about American heavy metal, The Beatles, and a few books on punk.

By the time it's your turn you'll probably have 500 posts anyway. Are you in? |
Whaaa there's a minimum posting rule?
I think I should be exempted r-t. |
Quote:
but if you want to go ahead and stick me on the list, i will do my best to have 500 before it comes to me. just keep bumping me down until it happens, i guess. i'm actually very excited to see how this plays out...doing something so interactive with the members here is why i joined up in the first place. |

You're in. |

Also you wouldn't have had to leave any clues, remember I have access to your IP address and from there I could've found it on my own, however it's probably an abuse of mod powers and kind of creepy. |

I'd have vouched for Duga anyway. Seems like a solid guy. Man, I'd like to get in on this, but I still haven't mailed back a digital turntable that arrived to me broken from the manufacturer like 2 years ago. I'm so lazy I just accepted the loss. So... I'm the wrong person to be expected to go to a post office. Ever. |
Wait loathsome pete right track said something about paying for postage. I could send a couple bucks to the return address or something if you want.

Does anybody else want to read it afterwards? |
Um, sounds cool, but also kinda expensive?
|
I would love to participate, but it might be an issue due to geographic purposes. Not much "mailing" in here, so I don't really know how to use the postal service. I'll add my name to one of the P.I.F books, once I find out how it all works.

Lol, I did actually...:D
Anyhow, the cost of the overseas postage here is enough to actually buy the book. Just sayin'...;) |

I already thought of that and to make it a bit more worthwhile I was thinking of throwing in the Closer CD too... ...and why do I get the impression that the Croatians are the Scots of the Balkans? |
The whole project sounds like the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. Don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing :D
Edit: Maybe you can organize the list to have the shortest distance possible at each time. The book doesn't need to travel the Atlantic a dozen times. |
Yay my book arrived today. Scene:
I walk in the door MOM: A package arrived for you today. I was kind of wondering- ME: Uh, I don't know what it is. *Quickly hurry away carrying package* |
I was thinking of buying an empty book & send it around & have members write whatever they want in it.
|

Mine goes out tomorrow. LP can expect it to arrive sometime next month. |

Sounds like fun. |
That does sounds like fun....great idea Urbs. I'm in.
|
When I get it back I can scan all the pages & make it available as a download.
|
Sign me up too I suppose.
I'm glad you're first NSW, because I feel you're one of the few Urban would be willing to pay the trans-atlantic fee for;) |
Great idea Urban, I'm down with that one!
Also I'm surprised you got it so soon Story... considering I sent it out on Saturday. |

I feel guilty to say this (sorry r-t!), but can I take a raincheck on the P.I.F.? Any chance this will still be going strong in a couple of months? I'll be able to participate then for sure.
