Default Mad Men

Any fans? My favorite show of the new decade (I've got Westwood and Battlestar Galactica lined up on netflix though), it's got everything. Production values, beautiful cinematography, great acting, nostalgic yet topical, deeply personal yet tackles some of the biggest issues of our time, the least of which is feminism. And, of course, it's the best written show on television. Advertising is based on one thing...

I really enjoyed the first 10 episodes or so, but I felt that it never really went anywhere, and kind of stalled. I never finished the second season, got caught up in Carnivale instead.

It goes somewhere plot wise, don't worry, but that's really not the point...To each their own of course.

Default Mad Men

I really had no interest in this show up until this year when I was bored and decided to watch the first episode on Netflix. I've now blasted through all 4 seasons and have caught up on the 5th...just in time for next week's finale.

I'm amazed at the attention to detail they have for all things 60's and how they tie in a lot of historic events and how they impact the characters' lives.

Spoiler for Spoilers:
The show started to drag around the end of the 4th season and most of the 5th season for me so I was unsure of how they would spice it up again. After last Sunday's episode...damn did they spice it up. I haven't had something from a TV show stick with me the way that episode did. I can't believe Lane killed himself. They even faked me out a bit...his first attempt in his Jaguar failed so I thought he might have had second thoughts or taken it as a sign that he shouldn't do it. The way they revealed that he did was pretty intense if you ask me. I wasn't sure they would show his body...but when they did that image has kind of stuck with me all week. I just kept wondering what it would be like to be pushed so far that you felt there was no way out other than suicide. I can't wait to see the finale now. I'm also a little upset that Jared Harris won't be on the show anymore. He added some Englishness that the show needed.

I keep on meaning to check this show out but something always stops me from doing it. I have a feeling I won't like it. Is it just like a glorified period drama? How much can they do without someone getting murdered every so often to keep the suspense? :P

Well, it's definitely a period drama, but it's one of the better ones out there. If you like any period dramas at all you should like it. It's also a very character based show...in my spoiler tags I mentioned it started dragging during the last season and a half but the last episode was pretty ****ing intense. It's been sticking with me all week. If you don't like it after 2 or 3 episodes, though, I doubt you ever will. You should definitely give it a chance, though.
