Why is LoTR put in the same class as these children's books? Just because its fantasy?
Have you READ the Golden Compass? They KILL God.

I hope you're not fucking serious. Twilight could never compare to HP. Harry Potter was probably one of the best things to happen to fantasy novels and films of the time. What kind of juxtapose is that? HP and Twilight... wtf...

Why do you never read a post to the end. I am talking about the movies (and so does the thread).

Yeah, the big distinction there is that both Tolkien and Lewis were devout christians which influenced their work to some extent, I haven't read or seen Golden Compass but I hear it's very very anti god.

It's not really that anti-god. The Catholics blew it out of proportion.

Huh?

I actually read it when I was still young enough for the ideological stance to fly over my head, but even with hazy recollections - it has huge issues with religion. Maybe not so much the very first book - but by the end definitely.

You can't really compare these two, LOTR is in a league of it's own, and again, knocks Harry Potter out of the park in regards to the books. The quality of the movies again is most impressive with the LOTR and was well tied together within the trilogy. So I'd say LOTR, but as if HP had a chance.
