you cant really compare them since the harry potter movies havent finished yet. from the ones already out, i would have to pick harry potter over lotr's. lotrs was hard for me to watch, i thought it was boring. Honestly harry potter isnt much better but the newest movie had sick graphics and a decent story.

i voted lord of the rings...but quite honestly by the return of the king i seriously did not care if frodo and sam got stomped on by one of those elephant things. they bothered me a lot in the end. it seemed like they were replaying the same scene of those two over and over.

They compare as both are made for teenagers, especially if we're only talking about the movies.

I was referring to their quality but yeah, my 13yo niece is currently equally obsessed with both, which makes me a little sad...:/

i agree that this comparison doesn't exactly make sense.. but at the same time, last semester i took a class comparing Narnia, Golden Compass and LoTR.
Why is LoTR put in the same class as these children's books? Just because its fantasy? |

Yeah because it's fantasy, but also because Lewis and Tolkien were close friends and shared some stylistic similarities.

I like Frodo, if he comes off as annoying in the films sometimes I think it's just because of Woods mannerisms and not really the fault of the writing, but I still think Wood was very good in the role. I kinda liked Bakshi's Frodo more though. He wasn't as wussy or stupid. Then again, the fact that Frodo is such a wuss in Jackson's films is what makes him such a distinct and interesting protagonist. Last edited by boo boo; 01-17-2010 at 04:24 AM. |

Speaking of which, I share storymilo's sentiments regarding Ginny... it always irked me that Hermione is a sex bomb while Ginny remains overshadowed in that department. And I think Snape has always been my fav character. Anyway for me, there's no question about it... the LOTR films are far superior but that's not to say I don't like the HP films. I'm pretty keen to rewatch LOTR with our new projector setup... probably should get some surround sound first though. Keen for the Hobbit in 2011.
