When you're not looking for something depressing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0b90YppquE

This is the inside story of Street Art - a brutal and revealing account of what happens when fame, money and vandalism collide. Exit Through the Gift Shop follows an eccentric shop-keeper turned amateur film-maker as he attempts to capture many of the world's most infamous vandals on camera, only to have a British stencil artist named Banksy turn the camcorder back on its owner with wildly unexpected results.

That one's great, and the controversy makes it even more interesting imo. I heard about it after I saw the film and it really threw me for a loop.

Dear Zachary

One of the most visceral film experiences of my life. Don't watch this unless you are prepared to feel completely empty and depressed that a human being can be so horrible. It does however have two shining examples of what a human being can be. Just one of those films where it's almost impossible not to be moved to tears for one reason or another...happy or sad...mostly sad.

That's great movie, and such a sad, terrible story. It's been a year or two since I've seen it and I still think about it a lot.

I said a hip hop,
Hippie to the hippie,
The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it
To the bang bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie,
To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat.

Jimi Hendrix The Uncut Story

Really a fascinating piece with lots different friends and family members reminising and giving insight as to who this Rock icon really was. I've watched it several times and learn something new every time I watch it about this guy. From his childhood on into the later years of his career right up to his death. It shows where a lot of the ideas for his songs came from and who his idols were growing up. Its suprising how many people didn't want to play with Hendrix starting out, and fired him from their bands. I think a lot of people know the image of Hendrix and nothing about who he really was, and what he was about as a person. I dont want to say to much and spoil it, but if you haven't seen this documentary yet I strongly recommend it.

I don't know if I'd call all of these my 'favorite' but here are 3 that I watched recently and liked quite a bit:

Craigslist Joe: A guy spends a month living on his own with nothing but what and who he can find on craigslist.

A Complete History of My Sexual Failures: A guy attempts to make a documentary about why every woman he's dated has left him. Most of them refuse to talk to him but he still manages to make a pretty engaging doc.

The Woodmans: About the family of artists, The Woodmans, who are most well known for their dead daughter. This one will probably only appeal to people who love Francesca Woodman's photography.

Ghosts of Rwanda was an excellent/ yet heart wrenching documentary PBS made. Also "Children underground" is a great film about Romania's problem with homeless children. The whole doc is about these hoodlems running around the subwaystations and huffing glue not to feel hunger pains.
