I saw a featurette on ITV2 about it today and, as you said, I wasn't convinced by the effects in the slightest. Everything looked too vibrant, unnaturally so. Of course, I was watching this on my none-HD downstairs television so I am obviously not going to get the full IMAX 3D visual effects that I would be getting for my 10 quid cinema ticket but even so I was a bit underwhelmed.

I think you'd be doing yourself if a big diservice by waiting to see this on video. If you have any desire to see it at all you should probably go ahead and see it in theaters because obviously it will be the best possible way to experience it.

Ten quids a bit steep though, even for the cinema. I don't get the big hype of it that came from nowhere. Like nobody is excited to see it (that I know of) yet you can't escape it. I don't like the look of it personally, I don't really like those kind of films made entirely of special effects. I can bet that I'll be dragged to see it and spend a fiver more on a ticket than I normally would. A fiver more I completely grudge.

of course it will look fantastic in cinemas if it's good but if it can't transcribe itself to home viewing then it's a huge loss of both money (for the studio) and for the casual fan.

I don't understand the complaint that it looks like just another sci fi action film. Because it certainly looks like it's on a higher calibur of quality than most mainstream sci fi films from this decade, which may not be saying much but I'm a big sci fi fan and because good ones come around so rarely I have a special reason to get hyped over this movie, sure it has all the stuff a sci fi geek loves, like giant robots, dinosaurs and scantly clad alien chicks, so maybe it won't have much in the way of originality, but that's not always a bad thing. I didn't expect some kind of art movie because for god's sake it's James f*cking Cameron. But because this guy can do a sci fi action film better than any other director in existance that's enough reason for me to get excited. Anyway. At this point there's no way this movie is gonna flop. The critics have been mostly positive. Ebert, Roeper and Travers all gave it positive reviews. Yeah I know, Travers is terrible at writing reviews, but at least his ratings are spot on most of the time. Last edited by boo boo; 12-16-2009 at 10:10 PM. |

It's weird that you guys are so skeptical about it, as over here it's kind-of getting the opposite reaction. Everybody is really excited about it and thinks it looks fantastic, and one of my friends who has seen it said it loved it.
I'm looking forward to seeing it. |

Donno, I'm pretty skeptical too, and it's because everyone's so excited about it. Usually what happens with long awaited big buster movies, they turn out to just contain stimulating images lacking the essence of the story.

Yeah over hyped movies are always a let down, I don't want to get my hopes up for something out of this world and it's just another over hyped movie that turns out to be pretty average/rubbish.

To counterbalance all the hype pretty much everyone expected this movie to to bomb.
So since your expectations are so low it could very well surprise you. |
