The main issue is that for a film hailed as a turning point in modern cinema it has been marketed as just another big bucks actioner. For the casual movie-goer there is nothing to suggest that it is anything other than what the trailers suggest - big guns and blue things. Predictions are predictions, they have no substance other than being an opinionated look into the future, I just know that I'm not excited for Avatar.

I don't understand the complaint that it looks like just another sci fi action film. Because it certainly looks like it's on a higher calibur of quality than most mainstream sci fi films from this decade, which may not be saying much but I'm a big sci fi fan and because good ones come around so rarely I have a special reason to get hyped over this movie, sure it has all the stuff a sci fi geek loves, like giant robots, dinosaurs and scantly clad alien chicks, so maybe it won't have much in the way of originality, but that's not always a bad thing. I didn't expect some kind of art movie because for god's sake it's James f*cking Cameron. But because this guy can do a sci fi action film better than any other director in existance that's enough reason for me to get excited. Anyway. At this point there's no way this movie is gonna flop. The critics have been mostly positive. Ebert, Roeper and Travers all gave it positive reviews. Yeah I know, Travers is terrible at writing reviews, but at least his ratings are spot on most of the time. Last edited by boo boo; 12-16-2009 at 09:10 PM. |

Blah.
I'm not a furry or anything. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I find the blue chick to be kinda hot. The aliens in the film are inspired by cats somewhat, the noses, ears and tails. But they're still more human like and I wouldn't call them "cats" by any stretch of the animation. It's not like they have fur, oval shaped pupils and are playing with balls of yarn. I mean most fictional aliens take some inspiration form real animals. District 9 was about aliens that looked like f*cking shrimp. So why not cat aliens? I mean this is supposed to be a race that's more physically advanced than humans and well, cats are incredibly fast, strong and expert hunters. So I think cat people would be pretty f*cking badass. People these days act like escapism is such an evil thing. I doubt furries are gonna fap over this since the aliens dont even have fur, so if they don't give a sh*t, neither should you. Just try to enjoy and appreciate the movie for what it is and stop being insecure over your dumbass friends calling you a furry fag or whatever. Last edited by boo boo; 12-08-2009 at 11:01 PM. |

Well, although every trailer that's come out for Avatar so far has been a plot-spoiling worthless piece of shit that makes you NOT want to see it, the film looks like it would be entertaining in the context of being at an IMAX theatre.
...and in other entertainment news: Sherlock Holmes looks like its going to be really freakin' awesome!

I dunno, I think Downey Jr and McGregor are both excellent actors and they look fitting for the roles of Holmes and Watson. But on the dark side of things, it is directed by Guy Ritchie. Last edited by boo boo; 12-09-2009 at 03:44 AM. |
