as for the connectivity let me get this straight...

online achievements are a pro for the 360, as part of a service you have to pay for monthly. yet you haven't connected a device that has free online services... and remained ignorant of another device that offers the same service for free.

have you ever actually looked at a PS3 before?

Yes, and it looked at me funny, hence my strong bias.

The 360 backwards compatibility isn't as great as you'd think. Many original xbox games are buggy or don't work on it at all.

That's funny, because my favorite genesis controller was the six button one that had the two buttons mapped to the shoulder. I'm pretty sure it wasn't official because I also seem to remember it having rapid fire but I don't remember who made it.

Not the exact one but really similar.

I think our opinions on controllers differ b/c the style of games we play differs. You seem to prefer rpgs and adventure type games based on what I've read, but I've always preferred FPS, fighting games and sports games so my decision on controllers largly depends on how accurately and quickly it allows me to manipulate my on screen avatar.

While searching for a picture of the genesis controller I did come across an old 1up article that's pretty interesting.

Yeah those were third party controllers, I had one for the Genesis and one for the SNES. I thought it was kickass how they had built in rapid fire buttons, they even had a slow motion button.

I loved the feel of it, a lot better than most of the controllers at that time. I didn't really use the rapid fire, but just preferred it as a controller.

I only used the rapid fire to cheat during the mortal kombat test your strength challenges.

Anyway, interesting 1up article, most of their articles are downright terrible but that one was ok.

I didn't think the Dreamcast controller was that bad though. Making it as big as a dinner plate was a really poor design choice (though I understand it was to support the VMU feature, which was an incredibly innovative idea for the time) as well as inexplicably putting the cord at the bottom.

But at least the button layout was solid, though stripping the amount of face buttons down to 4 was kinda questionable, especially when it was a system that excelled at Capcom fighting games, it's not like they ran out of space or anything.

What they should have done was reuse the original Saturn controller design and just add an analog stick. That would have been perfect.

Actually, to set the record straight, only the launch PS3s were capable of playing PS2 games. The newer ones can't because Sony wanted to cut development costs.

Definately have to agree with you there, but who doesn't love progess for the sake of progress?
