I feel like the social aspect of Xbox is far superior to PS3 and that's all I really care for nowadays. I don't give a **** if I have to pay 6 bucks a month to play, Microsoft doesn't make any money off of Live anyway so they are charging what they have to.

Definetly. I can't quite grasp the controls of an Xbox controller either, my friends will say, "press X" for whatever Xbox letter. The Xbox controller is just backwards if you ask me.

That is pretty cool.

Yeah but the 360 is just as powerful.

Good games.
It does indeed have some good games, a lot more that I'm interesting in trying out than the PS3. Though a great majority of these games are also for the PC. So I'm not really compelled to get a 360 at the moment either.

Nice controller.

The reason I never bought an xbox was becuase the controller.
Well the original Xbox controller was godawful but the redesign was a huge improvement.

Anyway, the Duelshock controller is more comfortable to hold than the Xbox controllers but I think the layout for the 360 controller is better. I like that the D pad is next to the right analog stick rather than being on the top left of the controller face, it's just a lot more comfortable that way, especially when a game has to make use of both. I personally have never been a big fan of the Playstation controllers. I don't like their shape or button layout very much.

The Dreamcast controller had a brilliant, simple layout but it's massive size and round shape took a long while to get used to and I'll never understand the logic of putting the cord at the bottom of the controller.

Of all the last gen controllers. Gamecube is superior to all, perfect button layout, most comfortable to hold, most suitable for any kind of game and it's my personal favorite controller of all time.

All the buttons are exactly the same, just different letters/symbols.

Nobody looks at their controlled, they look at a monitor.

I've heard some Xboxers say they can't use the PS3 controller and vise versa, only a spastic couldn't use one and not the other.

They're virtually the same.

No they're not.

Having one analog stick and one D pad at the bottom and one analog stick at the top instead of two analog sticks at the bottom and one D pad at the top is a big enough difference for me to prefer the 360 controller.

But, I don't like either button layout as much as the Gamecube controller, or the N64 or Dreamcast controllers for that matter.

Probably my favorite thing about the GC controller is how much it differentiates all the buttons giving them different sizes and shapes. I never ever confuse one button with another. A problem I frequently have with the other controllers.

but the issue was button layout, not d-pad or sticks. if you can't handle a diamond layout because B is called 'circle' or vice versa then something's up. unless it's in quick time events, in which case it can take a while to get used to the difference. for the average game there's no reason it should prove a challenge.

Well I haven't grown up with the PS1 like a lot of people.

I'm just not really used to anything outside of the traditional use of buttons with letters on them.

I just have a hard time remembering where Playstation buttons are positioned, whenever the game tells me to push the circle button for something I have to briefly look at the controller again.

But by far the biggest annoyance for me is having two shoulder buttons on both sides. Not confusing L1 with L2 or R1 with R2, in addition to remembering that square is left, circle is right, triangle is top and x is bottom. It's just so convoluted and I really would prefer it if they used a letter system instead.

I just think the idea of using shapes is stupid, is it to make them stand out more? Well it dosen't. And why not just give the buttons different colors? As in, not just the lettering. Maybe it's because Sony were so obsessed with being for "mature" gamers and thought it was too childish, but multicolored layouts really does make it easier to memorize. The PS2 had the only controller from last gen that didn't do this.

I mean it was acceptable to make all the buttons look the same back in the old days when the button layout was simple, with no more than 6 buttons and a D pad. But starting with the 5th gen it really helped to make the buttons stand out from each other a little more.

The GC controller sticks to what I'm familiar with, the same simple layout as the SNES controller. B on the bottom left, A on the bottom right, Y on the top left, X on the top right, L on the left shoulder and R on the right shoulder.

The Xbox controller reversed the face button order around, so it took me a while not to accidently hit X when I needed to hit Y. But it's no real biggie.

And I think you're right about quick time events, I assume that's one of the reasons people prefer the GC version of Resident Evil 4 to the PS2 one.

every playstation i've ever played had colour coded buttons (the actual symbols). it helped make games like Parappa tha Rappa and Um Jammer Lammy awesome.

might be that 3rd party controllers were not color coded though.

Nothing compares to the 3rd party N64 controllers. Some of them were the worst shapes and most terrible ideas for controllers ever.

Like I said I meant the whole buttons not just the symbols.

I like to play games in a dark room rather than a lit one. And so yeah, all the buttons just look black to me. I shouldn't have to use a magnifying glass just to see the thin red square.
