I rather it end on a high note and stop at season 5 than to continue to push on and start to get horrible.

That's why I love some UK series, they know when to stop and they know when the story is complete and shouldn't be pushed any further.

US shows don't do that, they will keep pushing a show past it's creative limit just because it's making money and getting ratings and as soon as the ad money stops coming in then they pull it away and put it out of its misery after it goes to shit in a hand basket.
