Honestly I find sitting behind a computer screen playing World of Warcraft to be a lot "nerdier" than sitting around a table playing a game. At least with PnP games there's real social interaction without the use of some expensive piece of technology.

You should honestly get back into it, even if it's just one session a week, or once every two weeks. It's the best way to spend a cheap night in with friends, using your imagination and wit to play the game while the TV stays off.

Why must you hate?

Doesn't it count for anything that I used to be pretty damned good a M:tG?

It counts for a lot, because Magic: The Gathering is a fucking awesome game:D

Guybrush 11-04-2009 04:16 PM

Haha, awesome .. I still got a small pile of cards stashed somewhere. I forced my girlfriend to play it with me a couple of summers ago :p: She didn't like it much. I remember many summers ago, we played M:tG and D&D games all our waking hours for a week because we were trapped inside a cabin and the weather was ****ty. Good times, though, good times.

I had a kick ass green/black elf deck (still do actually. Just don't play it anymore)

And yeah, MTG needs a thread. Did anyone else play it?

Nerd it up, bitches.

storymilo 11-04-2009 08:55 PM

Hellz to the yeah

I had 3 main decks I think. A black/green elf deck, and red/black burn deck, and a green/white sliver deck. The elf deck was the best when it worked and you got a billion elf tokens out, but the burn deck was kickass too:)

Guybrush 11-04-2009 09:36 PM

Aside from just hoarding cards, I actively collected (traded for) soldiers, birds, bird soldiers and clerics. Needless to say, creature-wise I had a lot of whites.

Janszoon 11-04-2009 10:05 PM

This right here is how I know I'm an older nerd than you nerds.

Anyhow back on topic.

I use to collect Magic: The Gathering cards as a child however I was never really taught how to play the game, so I just assumed that my card that had a troll holding an axe beat your card that had a picture of a field on it.

savannah 11-06-2009 02:24 AM

what in the hell are you nerds talkin about

adidasss 11-06-2009 03:30 AM

Sweet, now we can all come here to laugh at the nerds and make them revisit the no doubt traumatic highschool years...=D

Guybrush 11-06-2009 04:48 AM

^Pft, you two are just jealous. Who wouldn't like pretending you're a mighty wizard conjuring up monsters and spells in a card game ripe with collector's potential? Nothing nerdy about it, I'm sure beefier outdoor types would love it too. :p:

I always liked the Lhurgoyf. He was one of the first supermonsters I ever met in M:tG and it's not that it was kickass which I found interesting, but I love the conceptuals. The Lhurgoyf feeds off corpses so naturally the more creatures there are in the graveyards, the mightier it becomes! I think it was the first card I truly noticed had such a conceptual quality about it.

http://sales.starcitygames.com/cards...E/lhurgoyf.jpg

Besides, I love the quotations they'd put on the cards. "Ach! Hans, run! It's the Lhurgoyf!"

Any other favourites?

savannah 11-06-2009 09:00 AM

i'm sorry but i dont need no stinkin card to tell me how to pretend,...all i need is a tutu, a tree, and plenty of time

noise 11-06-2009 09:05 AM

oh man, i used to be so incredibly addicted to this game. i don't remember what the official count was - some ungodly number like 11,000 cards or something. i sold them all (for a lot less than i should have) before i went off to university all those years ago.

i wish i still had them - some of the full sets and rare cards i had would fetch more than a few buck today :)

i liked Icy Manipulator myself. i had a whole deck that had cards designed to tap opponent cards, while at the same time to generate hordes of 1/1 token creatures. it was brutally efficient, and very hard to beat.

I don't know what you're talking about, I was hotsauce in highschool baby.

Also, you have more posts about **** in the "what are you reading section" than you do in any other section...do not deny your people.

Guybrush 11-06-2009 10:52 AM

I may have had nerdy interests, but I don't think I've really been percieved as a nerd by people who didn't know me back in the days. If they did, at least they didn't tell me. :p:

This guy was one of the first I have too because no one bought Ice Age and it was significantly cheaper. (i started out with the **** series like Dark Moon, Antiquities).

One of my favorites was

http://www.evocacion.com/magic-the-g...ven-il-vec.jpg

As I say, I split over the black/green and this is why. Green produced the mana, black ripped through other teams like a beast. Also, the lore behind this guy was so good.

anticipation 11-06-2009 11:02 AM

probably the most unintentionally funny post evar.

Guybrush 11-06-2009 11:09 AM

Some clever picture hosts there, yeah. ;)

TheBig3 11-06-2009 12:04 PM

No, nerd, remarkably the cards don't require clothing.

savannah 11-06-2009 12:16 PM
