DARKNESS/LIGHT/DARKNESS (1989) by Jan Švankmajer

Another short film, a stop-motion this time, by Czech surrealist Jan Švankmajer.
Enjoy.

Stephen and Timothy Quay are American identical twins that go by the name of The Brothers Quay. Influenced by names like Jan Švankmajer, Terry Gilliam and Tim Burton.

THE CABINET OF JAN ŠVANKMAJER (1984) by The Brothers Quay

An homage to the master of stop-motion, an artist that has played a major role in influencing the twins.

THE CALLIGRAPHER (1991) by The Quay Brothers

An identification commissioned for the BBC2 television channel, but never broadcasted. This stop-motion shows very much the influence of Terry Gilliam on the brothers.

ARE WE STILL MARRIED (1992) by The Quay Brothers

That one is more on the side of Tim Burton's macabre. An animation made for His Music is Alive's song Are We Still Married.

ENJOY.

I really love the works of this guy, but they're really obscure.

This is from 1972: The Telephone Booth.

After watching the movie, many people never looked at a telephone box the same way again.

Zupa (or Soup) by Zbignew Rybczynski. One of his many brilliant short films.
